So DH and I were thinking this is going to be our next step in our journey but I can not find a lot of info out there!

How much does it cost?
Is it invasive?
Can you get PF if you already have a child?
The success rate?

Do you recommend this route?

TIA

Hi Fingersxd4#2...I had my first IUI last week! It cost us $1490 for everything (meds, consults, scans, blood tests and actual procedure). It wasn't invasive at all (though I'm well accoustamed to having my legs in the air these days lol!) and the fertility nurse did the actual procedure. Its pretty much like a cervical smear but they place a fine catheter through your cervix and inseminate straight into the uterus. I didn't feel anything at all!

As far as I'm aware, there is no funding if you already have children (well, I didn't anyway). And as far as the success rate, its about 20-25%. They monitor you so closely though, your timing is pretty bang on which is helpful. Me and DP will do a couple (if necessary) then move on to IVF.

The worst part for me was taking the meds as they made me very crampy and tender and I was pretty crampy after the procedure, probably for about 24 hours, but nothing worse than a bad period really.

Best of luck, I think its a good first option, just not sure I'd do it more than 2-3 times myself...

Hey FingersXD. Regarding funding, yes, you can get public funding with 1 child (it's 2 children that rule you out forever), however you DD would need to be at least 3 yrs old before you'd be eligiable to go on a waiting list (exact waiting time would depend on causes of infertility - you'd have to talk to your specialist regarding when you'd have enough points, etc). Also, I believe if you get public funding for IUI then that counts towards your potential IVF funding (you get one or the other), so since IUI is much cheaper I'd probably go private for IUI and save public for IVF if needed.

Just thought I would pop in regards to the funding. Myself and my husband are doing IUI as part of our injectable cycle we qualify for funding and were told we have 4rounds of IUI and if not successful we are funded for ivf as well, so ask them for sure!!

Hi there
We have privately funded two iui (cheap down south at only $800)
I was told you can swap one of your ivf cycles for 4 iui cycles but as mentioned above most people go private and use funding for ivf
