Hi everyone. Its been a while since Ive been on here! We are not wanting to TTC for about another year, if we are ready then! But I have developed some health problems since I had my DS (now nearly 3) and am just wondering what I should be doing to get myself in the best shape health wise for when we do try.

I had post natal depression which is now chronic depression- quite severe at times. So I take antidepressants for that and don't think it would be wise for me to be off them for pregnancy as I am at a big risk of prenatal and post natal depression. Has anyone gone through ttc/pregnancy still on them?

I also have high blood pressure which developed when I had my son (preeclampsia) then went away for a bit then has been back for about a year. So I take medication for this too, but will have to stop or change if I get pregnant.

Also I appear to maybe have hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone) so I am on a trial of medication for this as well. I know this condition may impact my ability to conceieve as easily. I did have trouble the first time round with long cycles and it took nearly a year to conceive at age 24.

I am stopping taking the pill now as Ive been having trouble with random bleeding too.

So I guess my question is, has anyone gone through TTC and pregnancy with similar health issues? What can I do to make sure I'm in the best possible situation?

Was thinking I might get on vitex to try and regulate my cycles, as after baby before I went back on the pill they were really long again. Then Im not sure...

Thanks for any help

Hi Snugglebug

Im probably not quite in the situation you are seeking advice from people from, but I have suffered chronic depression for over 5 years and been on AD's for that time. I asked my GP about ADs about 4 months ago when I discussed wanting to TTC next year and she said they are category C so no real evidence either way. She said that cutting down on dose may be better than completely coming off them.. be on the lowest dose you can in other words. So i decided to reduce there and then and have actually since managed to come off them, which Im glad of.

I would say tackle one thing at a time, especially if you arent planning on C for 12 months - and find a doctor that you are really happy with.

My advice would be to read Natural fertility by Francescia Naish. And find a really good naturopath who specialises in fertility to work with you.
But thats my thoughts - Im all about the natural approach, working with your body to find the root cause.

Oh and for the Depression theres a couple of AMAZING books that literally saved my life!
I cannot stress that enough! saved my life!

Dealing with Depression Naturally SID BAUMEL
and
Potatoes not Prozac by Kathleen des maisons

For my thyroid I actually found the medication from the dr didn't help at all what did was NOW foods Thyroid energy and enzymatic therapy Adrenal stress formula

Wishing you the best on your journey to health Heart
