Hi all

Happy new year.

I'm wondering what people plant in later summer in preparation for autumn / winter. I've never really grown over winter so I'm not sure whether to bother or not.

Probably depends where you are. I'm in Wellington and normally grow leeks and carrots happily over winter. Kale is good pretty much wherever you are (it lives through anything in my experience!) Some onions are also good, though check variety. Also winter cabbages - so much easier than spring! If you are in Welly or north I'd guess you might still have time to get brussels sprouts, broccoli and beetroot in - depends on when first frosts are though. Good luck!

I must get myself organised then. I haven't tried growing carrots or onions yet so might give them a go as well as some more cabbage at the very least.

It hardly seems logical to discuss Fall planting when Summer is just getting underway, but it’s the right time to begin your plans for an autumn garden.
