Topic: Meal idea for gluten free dinner Posted: 06 February 2013 at 11:01am |
I need ideas for a simple gluten free meal. DS3 is having a friend over for a play date soon & he will stay for dinner & I just found out he is gluten free. I don't want to buy anything in.
I have no idea what I can give him.

salad, egg, steak/chicken, cherry tomatos.
Nothing like pasta, sausages etc.
Just ask his Mum she's be more than delighted to tell you want he can have from around your house. Chances are she might be packing him food like I usually do for my boy.

she said rice, but my kids are not big rice eaters & I am refusing to make rice as DH complained for 2 days about how bad he thought my rice was the other day.
Since it was Friday after school I was just going to do quick kids meals which was either pies, mash potatoes & veg or pizza using pre made bases but I guess they are both out now.
Also I guess 2min noodles & pasta are out? So can't do stirfry or mince & pasta dishes.

You could do oven chips, baked Beans (Oak brand) and some minute steaks? You can pick up GF sausages as well (Hellers do a beef GF one)
You can still do stirfry if you pick up a bottle of Tamari (GF soy sauce available in most supermarkets.
Plain and simple is the way to go. We had a dairy, wheat & tomato free house for 2 years and I stuck to the basics with veggies/salads, potatoes/rice & simple meat options.

You can get cheap GF pasta now that the kids won't know is GF pasta, the stuff in the Green packets, it's just over $3 for 250gm so still dear compared to normal pasta though.
Got rice crackers?? Maybe just do them a platter of food, so fruit, vege, hot chips, some sort of meat? like schnizel into strips?
