Hi ladies,
I have been umming and arring for some time as I think there is something not quite right with my nether region. I think I have finally discovered what I may have. A Cystocele prolapse. I am going to go to the doctor Tomorrow hopefully but was wondering if A) anyone else has one, B) how do they live with it, is it bad, treatment etc
Thanks!

I went and saw my GP at about 4 months post birth as I felt something wasnt right. He refered me to a gyno, who confirmed I was right (which was a relief!) - I had a Stage 2 recto-enterocoele and a stage 2 cystocoele, plus extensive scar tissue - all of which eventually needs surgery to repair.

The gyno discussed how my labours had gone, what our plans were for further children, how much discomfort and pain it was causing me, and how I wanted to proceed. As there was a high chance of needing surgery again after one or two more kids, we decided on me waiting until we have finished our family to go ahead with that. She was very supportive though and had I insisted, would have supported surgery now even if it meant more surgery down the track.

DD2 is now 1 and I have to say Ive seen a huge improvement in the last 3 months. It still needs repairing but I can live with the problems (the main one is discomfort during sex). I dont do anything in particular for treating the problem. I was given pain pills but more for the scar tissue I think - I never really used them though.

I think the options depend on the degree of damage and the problems it give you, so theyll go over everything with you.

Worth noting - it was suggested to me due to the nature of my first two labours, the damage caused during DD2s birth, the potential for further damage with natural labour, and the size of my babies, that I have c-sections for any future kids. If you are planning more, its worth discussing - its not a definite with prolapse, in fact she told me she would help me have a natural birth if I REALLY wanted to go down that route again, but for me it was weighing up the benefit of vaginal birth compared to the risk of irriversible damage and risk to my girls if my labour was the same.

All the best for you appointment, hope it goes well for you

Thanks for your reply,
I've noticed that people seem to have more than one kind of prolapse going on at one time, do you know if that is fairly common? I have an appointment first thing in the morning with the doctor so hopefully I can get sorted asap. We definitely want more but I had easy breezy births so fingers crossed I can go naturally again if we are lucky enough to have a sticky bean :)

Not sure, Ive found it really hard finding others in the same boat as me. What she did say is when its caused by birth trauma (or in my case, pushing out a huge baby for two hours who was well stuck!), is that its quite common to have some degree of prolapse, just often its minimal and sorts itself out over time.
There are issues with the pressure of pregnancy itself too - can put a lot of strain on your vaginal walls etc. What they will be happy with you doing depends on your circumstances but if theyre happy for me to have 2+ more babies and go vaginal if I really wanted to, Im sure theyll be happy for you to have another natural birth

I've just discovered in the last week I have prolapse. I believe it's prolapse of the cervix. As what happens is, whether provoked by bloating, vomiting of going #2's, my cervix prolapses and goes to the entrance of my vagina. As in, if I go to wipe, it's right there.

I have been referred to antenatal unit. So I'm awaiting an appointment. Not sure what they do about it in pregnancy. There has been suggestion of putting a ring around the cervix to help with it.

I've never had this problem before now. So I found it quite concerning.

I have prolapse as well, although I haven't had a traumatic birth - just seems I had bad luck/genetics! I have recto-cele, cycto-cele and whatsoever it is that causes the cervix to drop as well. my youngest is now almost 2 and while it was very uncomfortable a year ago, they symptoms have pretty much disappeared now. I do still have problems during heavy coughing or if I get constipated. I am lucky in that I have no issues with incontinence though thankfully. I had a ring fitted a year ago that was supposed to hold everything up and found it no use at all so discontinued using it. Basically I was told the same thing as a previous poster - ther was little point repairing everything if I wanted to have more children so as we wanted one more it has been left for now. I will have it all repaired at a later date.

It will get better in time so while it is a real pain now you will see improvement :)
