Topic: Unsatisfied Posted: 05 July 2012 at 11:41am |
I'm feeling really unsatisfied with everything in my life at the moment. Everything just seems like it's not enough. It's getting to the point where I think I'm getting a little bit depressed.
Has anyone else felt like this? And what did you do about it?
I think I need a hobby or a career... but with an eight month old son and my partner starting studying next year I don't feel it's the right time to re-train for anything. And as for hobbies.. I've looked, oh have I looked for something around my area to do but I just can't find anything for me :(

Mid winter blues might not be helping how you feel. Sometimes a hobby or craft is something you never expected you would enjoy... One of my friends from playgroup does a pottery class but it wasnt something she thought she would really get into but now she loves it!

Hey, I know exactly how you feel. I get like this quite alot and finally I seem to be making sense of it and being able to prevent.
Most importantly I've found having a goal or a couple of goals can help. For example at the moment I'm working on some childrens books i've been trying to write and my DH and I are working on renovating our spare room. It could be anything though.

I felt similar to this not so long ago. Throwing yourself into hobbies is a great distraction. You don't have to wait for a class or instruction, the internet has loads of how to guides on lots of different things. Think about the things you enjoy or have always wanted to do and go to it! Hope you feel better soon, it's not a great feeling is it.

I'm a big believer in always having something to look forward to. Do you have a holiday or something like that coming up?

There's quote "happiness is having- someone to love, something to do, something to look forward to."
I felt very similar when I had my first child, I'd moved to a town where I knew no one and it was pretty isolated, not a lot to do, so I started gardening, taught myself to knit, etc. I made a pact with myself to try something new every month. A few things I didn't like but it definitely helped to get my motivation back.
One of the things I liked doing was I started at the very first recipe in the Edmonds cookbook and worked my way through the whole book. It took about two years but I ended up trying recipes I wouldn't have looked twice at, some I didn't like, but others I really did, and that was quite satisfying!

I would love to try things like that but I never have any extra money once I've paid the bills. And I don't like having to ask my partner for money to do things :( I'm thinking about buying a sewing machine and trying to do make some things to keep me busy.

Good to know I'm not the only one... I used to have goals but I don't have any now. I guess I need to come up with some and get some more structure in my life.

No :( We always talk about going away for a weekend or something but it never happens. If I want anything to happen I have to organize it myself and just for once I'd like my fiance to help out! I do have a new job coming up though, I'm looking forward to that... I found out a couple of days ago that it's only a few months away.

I've actually thought about doing that exact same thing! But then I look at the cookbook and see that there;s just so much I don't like and wouldn't want to eat. Maybe I should do it anyway.

My little boy is 2yo nearly 3yo and I have to say that part of it is that when you become a mummy your child just ends up consuming your whole life and then after a while as they become less dependent, you start to have a bit of space for yourself again. And after all that time of absolute devotion to baby, your identity can be lost. Your whole life has changed and it's hard to know where to start. If you relate to that, you're not alone!
It's hard to balance the time, the finances and the opportunities to start putting things into your life that are about you and not just about baby but with a bit of thought and creativity, it's possible. I love some of the ideas here and I'm sure there's lots more to come
