Hi there, my partner and I have just recently got confirmation that our only real shot at having a child will need to be via IVF. We have been told we will be on the waiting list from next month but I'm just wondering if anyone else has gone onto a public waiting list recently and what the expected wait is for you? We are in Hamilton. Just wanting to know if we should start thinking about paying for a private round if we are looking like we will be in for a long wait on the Hamilton public list. Thanks : )

Firstly sorry to hear you have to have IVF - it is certainly a hard thing to take in.

I'm not sure about Hamilton - but most clinics seem to be a years wait list.

There is other things you can do in the meantime though that the clinic will help you with - ie if your fertility issues are about not ovulating then they can put you on clomid, or there is IUI etc too. So there is options rather than having to pay full IVF while on the public waitlist.

ETA - Sometimes you get bumped up the list as well, and the wait can be shorter than they say :)

Good luck :)

Sorry you have to do IVF

The Christchurch waiting list is 12-13 mths long. Which I think may be pretty standard???

We went on the waitlist in Hamilton nearly three years ago. We went on it in June or July 2009 and were scheduled to start January 2011. So it was pretty nasty at the time. Hopefully it has decreased in the interim for you, and all the very best.

Thanks for the responses ladies : ) Hopes - wow that is a long wait, I see you have two bubs now, congratulations! Did you end up going private or a private and public round?

IVFGirl - we went in to our specialist appointment thinking we wouldn't even be able to do IVF due to an operation my partner had to have when he was young so it was actually good news for us and a bit of a relief that IVF is even a possibility for us, we were thinking there may be no chance for us at all. We have to do IVF with ICSI as well so it's really just the public vs private decision now. Guess that will be easier to make next month when we know what that wait list looks like, fingers crossed it's got a bit better in Hamilton lately.

We had decided to go private in Jan 2010. I have endo, so we needed a lap op first to clear that up, and I had that in Nov. My specialist drilled my ovaries while she was at it as I have PCOS and that can help... and I never got my period back, our son was concieved straight afterwards. We decided not to use protection after he was born because of how long we'd had to try for him... and I had one period before we conceived our daughter! Crazy stuff... hopefully you have a similar miracle.

Hi there,
I am just new to this site.
To answer your question Cream, My partner and I are starting our IVF/ICSI at Hamilton Fertility Associates in October. We have been on the Waiting list since last November (2011). We were actually called 2 weeks ago to see if we wanted to start in August due to a cancellation, but we decided to stick with October as it worked best for us with work etc.

Hi there,

I have just been told that I will be booked in for public treatment in March 2013. Just wondering... does this mean I will be starting the drugs in March or does it mean I'll be booked in for transfer in March?

Thanks

Leanabh, it means you will start the drugs in March. They go off Day 1 of your natural cycle in the selected month.

I'm with Fert+ in Auckland, was told wait would be 12-18 months at our appt in Feb. Must admit I did keep pushing and rang almost once a month. Had my orientation appt yesterday and due to start treatment in Nov - so 9 months wait.

Hi, thanks astral_monkey.

I heard from the clinic today and they said that I will be having the egg transfer in March and starting drugs in Feb. Maybe every clinic is different so I thought I should post in case anyone else wondering the same thing.
I am with Otago Fertility Services in Dunedin and on public funding.

Hi there,

I am new to this site and have joined as I am going to do IVF in April 2013 and wanted to find some support and couples going through the same.

I am from Southland and all up from my first fertility specialist appointment to the date we are starting IVF is 11 months.

We were told to expect to wait 18 months but after my diagnosis after my laparoscopy in July and 3 rounds of clomiphene we seem to have been bumped up the list.

Hope this is helpful.

Best of luck on your journey!
