Hello Ladies, i was wondering if any of you out there have used vitamins or folic acid when ttc? Any useful brands? Any to steer clear of? I'm ttc no#3 and trying to look for vitamins or a vitamin that has a good amount of folic acid in it. I've looked at elevit but it's little too high in my price range and i can't remember what i took with my other 2. Can anyone help me or recommend anything?

You can get Folic Acid on prescription from your dr, it's subsidised so just $3. Otherwise you can get APO Folic Acid from most pharmacies (pic) which has the correct dosage in one pill form for around $12 for a 4 month supply.

Hiya!
What is the amount of folic acid we should have?
I changed from Elevit ( too pricey!)to Blackmores Pregnancy Gold and they are different amounts. I am a lil bit worried about this.
I keep reading different amounts....and Doc thought Elevit was the best.
What do you guys take?
Thanks so much

my dr gave me a prescription of folic acid to take as well as Elevit, and she recommended taking a zinc supplement too (very cheap just from the supermarket), and she said iodine is good for fertility too - which is in the Elevit, and I make sure I use iodised table salt when cooking, instead of rock salt or other.

Hi all. I am taking Elevit and i've been scared off it by a natropath i met in the weekend. She said that it is synthetic and my body wont absorb it the same as a natural supplement. I am so confused from all of the supplements out there and i have no idea what to do. I can afford to buy Elevit, but is it worth buying if it doesnt absorb? This our first time trying for a baby. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi H20GIRL

I am the same as you....have been a bit put off with all the different advice!
I am thinking old school.....just folic acid and eating lots of veges/fish etc with folic acid in them, plus getting most of what I need from other food scources?
Did your Natropath say anything about Blackmores or any other ones?

Hi ladies. This a great topic and something I can relate to. I'm currently ttc #1. Just started folic acid and blackmores conceive well. Not sure how conceive well differs from blackmores pregnancy but I figured I'm not pregnant yet. Conceive well helps to prepare ur body (females) body for conception.
My DP has just started taking zinc vitamins. Elevit was out if my price range also. I had to buy them ofcourse, if I didn't he wouldn't have them at all !! These are NRG Zinc ultra. Organic Aswell so shouldn't have any affects other than improving his count/quality FX

Anyone get nausea from folic acis tablets?
I started them on Monday and have been feeling nauseated ever since.
There is a slim chance I am pregnant...very slim.
I wanted to take Blackmores conceieve well but cannot find it in my small town anywhere!
Have been on Blackmores Pregnancy Gold, but thought maybe I will just take folic acid and keep a good diet.
Anyone else get sick?
Spunky....I was thinking of keeping up with my Blackmores also with the folic acid....can you ever have too much folic acid?

Farmgal I had to order conceive well online as no shops had it. Trade me have it advertised for $40.
Just googled if u can have too much folic and apparently not. Your body will easily get rid of the excess.
It is recommended you have a minimum of 0.4 to 0.8 mg folic acid per say til ur dr says its ok to stop

Hi guys, I have just started on Blackmores Concieve well as well, not going to take extra folic acid as it has it in it, but I have not heard anything bad about taking too much. Also trying to get hold of Vitex which is supposed to help.

I just decided to take the scripts that my doctor gave me. The folic acid and the iodine. I don't see the need to take any extra vitamins at the moment as I eat a really healthy balanced diet. Once I am further on though I am happy to look into iron tablets etc if it is deemed necessary.

Script from doctor cost me $6 for 3 months worth
