    Posted: 12 March 2012 at 11:48pm
Hi,

Was just hoping someone out there could help, have tried asking IRD multiple times but they have never been useful.

When my boy was born in May last year we missed about 3 weeks worth of WFF payments due to a mess up with our paperwork causing a delay in getting his IRD number. We were told that any money we missed out on leading up to him getting an IRD number we would recieve back at the end of the tax year.

Just wondering, has anyone had this happen and does the IRD just do it automatically from their end ? Or is there a form that I will have to fill in on their website closer to the time?? I use online services if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any help!! As I sad I tried to ring and ask them using their email help but no one has been very helpful lol.

You should get it, we get such a small weekly amount we only get a lump sum every year. From what I can remember there is a tab on your online thing that you click and it will get calculated, and you have to confirm yours and your partners personal tax summary. but it doesn't happen until june or july cause it takes them ages to process everybody. I'm pretty sure that others will know more, but its not very hard to do it just takes ages.

Yes you should get it back as long as your other payments have been correct and you dont owe money.

I cant remember exact timing but i think i normally confirm the tax refund around June & then its payed out a few weeks later around July. Im not 100% sure on that though but around those months.

IRD automatically work out your tax refund for WWF payments. You can check this online and confirm. You will either owe money or be paid out money.

Hope this helps

IRD did it automatically at the end of the finacial yr and as long as you dont owe them $ they send u the cheque.

I find sometimes you have to get at them (IRD).  Last time I was told we were getting some fantastic amount (was very happy!), and then they sent our paper work to another dept for double checking, and it went into a holding pattern.

After ringing them again, they came up with a revised figure (damn).   After a few weeks of nothing we gave them another call - turns out our paperwork was very much buried and if we hadn't rung them we'd still be waiting.  So pays to be proactive.  All the best!

yes they do.

You need a birth cert to get an IRD number, so that can be a hold up...if you call them when baby is born they will start the payments & give you a few weeks to get a IRD number. Once you have the number let them know or they will stop the payments..

I think you have 6 weeks from putting baby on WFF til you need to have the IRD number in? So basically as soon as they're born do it.

I'm pretty sure you also need an IRD number to put your baby on Kiwisaver.  We did this from birth so that the opt-in $1,000 (from the Gov't) would be earning interest while DD was growing up.

Sometimes what also happens is if you request a PTS (Personal Tax summary) or your partner does (for a tax refund)that can put your WFF into a weird blackhole and they won't calculate whether there's an end of year refund or payment till they get both tax returns finalised. It pays to ring up and ask if you have filed your WFF paperwork and think you are entitled to a refund and you haven't heard anything after a few weeks.

And yes, you do need an IRD number to put your baby in Kiwisaver.

thats right if you and / or your partner file a ir3 the refund wont be ready until that has been processed eg your partner self employed fiels ir3 you sahm pts - you won't be able to get refund or find out if you have bill until that is filed because they won't have any income details until that is filed. remeber wff is paid in advance based on your yearly income so need all income details before doing assessment. you can get wff for 8 weeks without an ird numebr but you need to get it int hose 8 weeks.
if both your partner and your self get a pts then your assessment *should* be ready about augustish.

By black hole do you mean you dont get payments?? if thats possible I might just have to ignore what they owe because if they stop paying us we wont be able to pay our mortgage, buy food etc.

What she means is, your Wff won't be paid to you until both of your Personal Tax Summeries have been processed, if you have submitted them.

I think you should give the IRD a call and talk to someone about it, they can sort it out

By black hole I just meant that you won't get your end of year square up (for the previous financial year) until you ring them and sort things out, not that they would stop paying you the weekly payments for the next financial year going forward.

No problems Shelt.

I rang them yesterday anyway and he did a quick over the phone assessment and said it all looks perfect and theres no reason we will have any problems and that we wont have our payments stopped. Only bummer is that we wont get it until June/July which sucks as we were going to use it to get Luke his first birthday presents.
