    Posted: 05 January 2009 at 11:59am
Hi all, last time I had a 3D/4D scan for my 20wk scan, at a place in dominion rd - and as it was my normal 20wk scan they only charged about $30 for the 3D/4D bit. I know you can pay $150-200 for them at a few places .... but just wondering if there is anywhere offering them cheap still???

I don't really want to pay over $100 when I could just have the normal one free, and then pay later on if we want an extra 3D/4D one when you can see more (26-32wks). Personally I wouldn't bother 2nd time 'round, but dh wants to get a 3D pic again.

Thanks!!

Sorry not sure but I know what you mean it's definitly not worth paying that much especially when bubs might not be in a great position.
We were lucky in the last couple of months we had to have a scan every week to check for twin to twin transfusion and a couple of times we lucked out and got 3D/4D scan for free only once did we get a good face picture though and it was only of Esme. I think the 4D scans are better later in pregnancy anyway because you can see the features better.
Mayby check with your midwife? My sister lives in Auckland and also got a couple of free 4D scans but she was in the same boat as me she had twins and had a scan every week towards the end.

I think Horizon do them relatively cheaply .. (not sure exact cost though as I always go to Ascot, and they cost a fortune, but thats what I have health insurance for)

Also .. is the place on Dominion Road not doing them anymore?

Ack - can I have your health insurance lilfatty? Ours doesn't cover anything pregnancy related! Bollocks to them!

I think Auckland Radiology do them for $50 without referral.. I am sure that is what the notice said at my midwife.. that said they also wont do them at the 20 week scan as its rare to get a good picture, I cant remember from when they do them...

Gosh thats strange melnel .. I got awesome pics at 19 weeks with Isabelle .. (although she did look like a martian)

We got 3d done again at 24, 28 and then again at 32 weeks.

The ones at 24 were my favourite .. by the time she got to 28 she was quite big and it was hard to get her whole head in the shot

Thanks, may ring Akl Radiology. I'm sure it was them we went to last time (doesn't mention anything on their website about a cheaper one for the 20wk scan), and we got quite good pics at only 19.5wks .... but it was cheap with a referral and alot more without back then. Back then Horizon didn't even do them - may call them too.

Will have to check my insurance policy too!

It said somewhere there standard 20week was $20 with a referral, the notice I saw in my midwife office definately said they dont do them then anymore because of low success rate... worth asking though.

They don't have a dominion rd location, so maybe it was someone else.   Unless they closed that branch.

Might just tell dh they're not doing them cheap now, have the free 20wk one at Horizon, and worry about a 3D one later!!

OK - thought I should come in here and let you all know what I found out.
Auckland X-ray (dominion rd) do them for $50 - you can have it either as part of your 20wk scan with a referral, or you can go without a referral. Same price. They recommend 24-28 weeks for the best pic. You need to let them know if you want it done as part of your 20wk scan as it takes an extra 15mins.

Yay - I can handle $50, so we will be getting it done as part of the 20wk scan again!!
