My Avent bottles are often leaking around the white screwtop. It often takes a couple of attempts to get a proper seal without milk leaking everywhere. This happens almost every feed.
Anybody else with this problem and if so, what did you do to resolve it?

The same thing was happening to me and it was because my mum had told me that you need to make sure they are not done up too tight so air can get out(i think).(from her expericence with the old glass bottles she used!)
Turns out the new style bottles have air vents on the teats and therefore you do the lids up really tight! So i started doing them up tight and no more leaking!(my dad pointed this out to me of all people lol)
we use tommee tippee ones now and i was having the same prob with them, but yea, after doing them up tight, no more probs!

We've had it too but not all the time which makes me wonder if it's powder getting in the seal on occassion or something like that.
I think the tighter you screw the lid on, the slower the milk will come out though so I think you do it firm but not too tight or it's more of a struggle for bub to get the milk out.

Thats what I thought aswell feesia but with the Tommee Tippee ones, we do them up really tight and the milk still pours out the teat.
I did lots of playing round with them when our were leaking, and the best option was doing them up tight.

Not sure about the Tommee Tippee ones, I've never used those but I had a play around with our Avent ones too and found that the best. I do them up as tight as I can to shake them because that's when they'd usually leak and then do it not quite so tight before we'd give it to her. You can generally tell by how many little bubbles are coming up inside the bottle as to how fast it's coming out anyway.

Freesia, I do it the same - I do it up toight for shaking adn then loosen a little before giving to him. It means that a bit more air gets in/out and the teat works better.
Have not had any problems with leaking tho

I havent used the Avent ones for a few months so cant really remember what i did with those lol.
But yea the Tommee Tippee ones, need to eb done up tight, cos they elaked so badly when i would loosen them a bit, Caden ended up with milk all over him and i was SO confused as to why haha.

yup our avent ones do that i just shake in the sink and tighten loosen and tighten and loosen till they dont leak. i dont know why they do. coz they have the air vent things etc.

Sorry haven't read everyone elses posts, but I've had the exact same problem. My sister was telling me it's because I was screwing the lid on too tight 
When it happens now I just unsrew and screw it back up but less tight and all is good with the world once again

I remember reading in the info that came with the bottles and stuff, that you are meant to put the teats/bottles etc. together when they are still wet from washing/sterilising, and that helps them to get a better seal. You could try that, if it's not what you already do?

Thanks everyone - nice to know that its not just me with the problem. I was wondering if the powder was interferring with the seal. I did notice that the leaking was straight after adding the formula - normally during the shaking but also again after heating them in the bottle warmer. I guess I will keep on checking them each time. It is a pain though when bubs gets covered in the milk if I didnt notice it leaking. Also interesting to hear that Tommee Tippee brand has the same problem.

I get leaks sometimes too.
I try to always put them together when they are slightly damp, and run my finger around the underside of the teat (against the white ring bit) a few times to really seal them properly. If I do this, then they are always fine.
If the bottles are dry, then I just wet my finger a bit and that works as well.

I posted this same thread ages ago when the gremlins were still having formula, I found they always leaked worse when the teats were new, and that I could stop the leaking by pulling up on the teat to make sure it was sitting properly.

Our TT ones dont leak anymore cos with them you have to do them up tight tight, before I wasnt doing that and thats why they were leaking.

We used to have this problem, but I often found:
-if there was moisture, they would leak
-if I shook them, they would leak (you should swirl first and the air will start releasing, then shake)
-not do them up too tight
-pull the teats up a lot
-if all else fails, leave the cap off until the teat is secured on, swirl a couple of times, then put the cap on. That way the air has had a chance to escape first.
We haven't had a leak in months now
