Whats all you guys opinion on exercise in pregnancy?

All this year I've gone through spurts of going really hard out with my exercise to loose my baby weight with a lot of running on the treadmill. I gained 30kg with Daniel and I do NOT want to do that again, it's taken me almost 18 months to get 2kg lower than my pre-preg weight I was with Daniel.

I've been taking things very easy and resting, pretty much doing no exercise at all hoping this bubba will be sticky but I'm feeling guilty that I'm not doing anything. I have a scan next week to check out where this one has made it's home at but I don't feel like this one is another ectopic. I can't say why but I just don't think that it is.

Noticing my belly this morning has expanded alot over the past few days has motivated me to think about exercise but I don' tknow how much I should do

I did ALOT of walking when I was pregnant with Cooper, for as long as I could. So maybe you could do that on the treadmill at a nice pace?

What about swimming? Yoga?

I go to the pool with Daniel but because he needs constant supervision and I have to hold him in the big pool it's not the best of exercise lol. I have no motivation for exercise in the evenings so I can't go after DH gets home from work.

I can do walking on the treadmill. At least I can watch a movie while doing it lol

I think the general advise is not to commence any vigorous excerise regimes whiile preg, but its fine to keep going what you were used to.
Im sure all the things mel said would be great. I did preggy yoga and found it really good.

Walking is about all I'd be doing if I was you right now. My midwife has only just given me the ok to start pre-natal yoga.

Don't feel hard on yourself for not doing exercise, your actually do the best thing for you and this little sticky bean. Take it easy, enjoy doing a little yoga and spending time with Daniel and then when you get the all clear for this pregnancy start doing some exercise then. Remember that tummy is going to expand more over the coming months.

I walked my butt off my whole pregnancy and still put on 14kgs

I would just do walking and be cautious of what you eat!!

14kg is better than 30! lol

Its hard watching what I eat because I'm starving and my sweet tooth is on overdrive.

I'm not going as hard out as I was, but have just carried on with yoga 2x a week and go to the gym 2x a week to do either a big swim or a workout programme my PT wrote up for me. I agree that if it's stuff you've already been doing, or things that are more 'gentle' then go ahead... otherwise maybe wait a little while.

I would suggest walking regularly too. I did this when I was pregnant with Sebastien and also looking after an active toddler is enough exercise! I have lost my pregnancy weight pretty quickly second time around with having two children to look after.

If you've not been doing much then walking and swimming are good exercise. I did body combat 3 times a week before I got pregant so carried on with it and dropped to 2 a week only about a month ago, I'm still doing it but thinking of stopping very soon as its getting too hot. Then I'll just walk I think.

Before pregnancy I did Taekwondo and rock climbing 8 - 12 hours a week.

I got the all-clear to do some rock climbing (on top rope only) from my ob-gyn as soon as we were past 12 weeks.

I climbed until I was 8 months pregnant and was just too big and tired.

I still put on 20kg's

I'm figuring if this one is a sticky then it is a sticky and sensible exercise won't do any harm. I'm walking, doing arm weights, squats, lunges and gentle ab work - just as I was before I fell pregnant.

With Elle I walked at least an hour a day and ate sensibly but my body became a storing machine so I still put on loads (stopped weighing at 12Kgs). Thankfully it came right off but i doubt I could've done a thing to stop it going on...my body just did it.

With Oliver I carried on going to the gym up until about 26 weeks and then walked until the end. WIth Harry I was busy with working and having a toddler and found it really hard to fit in exercise when I felt so tired. The strange thing is that I put on about the same weight each time. Harry was a much bigger baby though. Not sure whether the exercise made no difference or whether chasing a toddler was just exercise enough!!!

Well, I gotta say this is the one thing I've stuck with since getting pregnant. Some days I am so achy and it's the LAST thing I want to do but I do it!

Before I got pregnant, I did kick boxing and running, but just didn't feel comfy still running.

I now walk on treadmill for half hour a day, and than swim (aqua jog) for half hour .

I'm sure that it hasn't helped with weight gain, but it totally has helped with toning. Still feel toned and have lots of energy.
So hoping to keep going till the end, but who knows some days, I feel insane for doing so much..

I also think having muscle under the fat stores helps the weight drop off after baby is born.

^^ I've heard that you're suppose to 'bounce' back alot quicker, size and recovery wise if you stay fit throughout pregancy. So we'll soon find out, lol!

My vote is for aqua jogging - I get too sore going walking (not to mention it's too blimmin hot). Aqua jogging keeps you nice and cool and is no impact, and I go for an hour at a time and feel so fantastic afterwards . Only problem is I get heartburn while I'm doing it, mind you I get heartburn about 23.5 hours of the day so yeah

Same Auntie Sarah! I love aqua jogging and for the last tri it is the easiest on your body..
I as well get wicked heartburn in the pool tho.. I always keep a bottle of water by the edge. Plus, cool way to meet other pregnant ladies, always a ton of them jogging away...

I'd go for it just done over do it.  As Fiona said if its a sticky it will stick.  I agree the general advice is dont START anything vigourous but if you are already doing it then it wont do much harm....just dont push yourself.  Keep running if you enjoy it.  A happy healthy mum is going to be so much better for a sticky bub,

Keeping fit is a great idea & it also helps with your stamina during birth.

I think the idea is to not get to hot so that you don't heat the baby up as well.

Also they recommend not going from zilch exercise to lots of exercise, so if it's something you have always done then you should be fine carrying on.

I gave up squash early on in my first pregnancy as the relaxin was bound to cause havoc!

I have mowed the lawns the whole way through this time & also "breed shown" my dogs. Last one tomorrow thank god!

I certainly advocate keeping fit, it's not about the weight but it certainly helps you during & after labour.
