OK, so since I got pretty big during my pregnancy, my back got pretty strained.
Now that my little (9lb 4oz) girl is out my back is killing me! Some days I can't even lift her
I have had all sorts of conflicting advice from mw/dr/physiotherepists but nothing helps.

Has anyone else had this? Is there any hope of it going away?
Also, does anyone know if I can have glucosamine or condroiton (sp) while breast feeding?

I had a really sore back during pregnancy and it slowly got worse and worse to the point where bending over made me feel like I was going to snap in half and picking Daniel up was extremely difficult. I ended up going to a chiro and with a number of sessions he fixed me up.. now whenever I feel pain starting to return in the same place I go back to him quick smart and have one quick visit but the last time I had to do that was at least 6 months ago so it's much improved.

Is a chiro different to a physiotherapist?

Yeah quite. My problem came from an uneven pelvis, my spine was slightly out where my pelvis joins and so it totally screwed up that area of my back. He put it back into place and gave me stretches to help build a bit of muscle strength and help stop it reoccuring. But it was the putting everything back where it should be that really fixed me.

PS. It didn't hurt getting it put back into place either. I had this fear that chiros hurt but it sooo didn't. But I went to one that uses gentle manipulation which I felt was important.

I had these problems too (once again we seem to have had similar probs).  I went to a physio who gave me exercises. They were pretty minor exercises, like lying on my back with my knees bent, then pulling in my tummy muscles and lifting one leg up without rocking my pelvis etc.   I found that  they helped as did making sure I wasnt bending too much putting TOm in and out of his cot (he was at the lower stage of his cot when I finally did something about it so we ended up putting his cot on 2 piles....highly recommend that).  Jody would be at basinett height but if thats a little low for you put her bassinet or cot on soemthing to make it higher....we spend a lot of time bending just a little.  Also try to pull you abs in when you bend (easier said then done when you arent sure they even exist anymore)

My back got better but I still find I cant bend too much without having probs.  I think I have just learnt to do things more sensibly

I have got some exercises to do from the 2nd physiotherapist which I am doing. I think maybe I am just being impatient, I want to be all better NOW!
We are going to move Jody to a cot soon coz she's getting big and wriggly very fast. I think it's a bit higher so that will be good :)
I will try hard to pull in my non-existent abs lol

How is your back holding up with this pregnancy?
