Topic: Too much wind?? Posted: 31 October 2008 at 5:00pm |
My little girl has been very unsettled today, and on and off over the last few days. Normally she feeds really well, and will sleep for a couple of hours at a time, but today she has been acting hungry but either not latching on or only having a few sucks before pulling off and grizzling. Has brought up milk several times also. And she wont sleep for any length of time - will fall asleep against me, but when I put her in her bed she wakes up a few minutes later.
She otherwise appears happy & healthy, is definitely putting on weight! Mum said it'll be wind, of which she is bringing up some, but I don't know what more to do about it. Does eating certain things affect it - if so, what?
I feel really sorry for her, she just doesn't seem to know what she wants! But I'm finding it frustrating also, and missing the chance for a sleep... Anyone have any suggestions??

I know this is frowned upon but you could try sleeping her on her tummy. When Alex was younger I would only put him in our bed to sleep on his tum during the day but now he sleeps on his tum all the time and sleeps so much better. It helps him get rid of his wind out the bottom end. Also you could give her some warm boiled water as that also helps.

I'm having almost exactly the same problem on a regular basis with my 6 week old.
I am pretty sure it is wind, but it is SO hard to get wind out of him. Any tips?
Sorry to treadjack Jessm.... hopefully we both get some good answers!

Thanks - I did notice that she fell asleep quite happily on my chest on her tummy, but didn't know there was an advantage to it! I'm not too worried about having her sleeping on her tum when I'm around, because she's got pretty good neck muscles & will quite happily pick her head up & flap it around where she wants. I have a moby wrap/sling, and at the moment she is fast asleep in there which is good for her at least!

laurie as you now I have been there with Alex (still there most of the time) we have found that having him over shoulder patting back and then moving him to a sitting position seems to get wind out every time. I have been giving him Weleda Colic Powder and have also used warm boiled water (5 mls) after each boob and that also gets a burp. Unfortunately everything I have read is just a whole heap of suggestions and you have to find out what best will suit Jackson.
Jess having her in the sling may also help to cos it will help ease the pain on her tum. I remember whenever I would take Alex out of the sling after a while in there he would poop when he was younger so that may help her too.

I have been told by lady at Health2000 to avoid eating to much cabbage, brocolli, parsnip, cauliflower, onion and not to much dairy esp cheese. And from Friday nights exoerience don't eat falafel (full of chickpeas & garlic). I also got colimed for Sophia and New Era for Indigestion, colicky pain & flatulence for me as she gets thru the milk. Who knows if it works but I am willing to try! The were only $15 & there 450 tablets!! Hope that helps.
