I saw Mary Clare McCarthy, she was lovely.

Here's her website http://www.breastfeed.co.nz/

Ditto - if you can afford her! She was very helpful though and well worth the money. Just wish we could have had her there for more time.

Good luck fifi - If we could have seen Mary Clare earlier and for more feeds I think we could have stuck with it.

Just remember, whatever you end up doing will be right for you guys. Mary Clare really respected my decision to stop in the end - but she was amazing and I think I got enough from her to feel I could give breastfeeding a go with my second.

Hey I just remembered - no one ever told us (when we were looking) about the free lactation consultants at Johnsonville family centre. You can go and sit with them for days and they will do what they can to help you. If money is tight - they are probably very good too.

Hi ther chicky!
Just wanted to say you are doing a great job. Baby and you are still learning the breastfeeding thing, and its such a shock after the pain etc of pregnancy and birth to find feeding so hard in those first few weeks.
As a general rule, things get better on a daily basis, slooooowly but surely. Most often, Mums find by 6 weeks, they are away and laughing. I run a support group and a peer supprot network, and always advice mums to take it one day at a time. I had a horrid time with my first child and had to make deals with myself to get to the end of each day.
Pick your midwives brains, too, she should have soem good advice.
Hugs to you, and any questions, please just ask!

Oh, Fiona, that's a good point about the Johnsonville Family Centre. I have been in there a couple of times with breastfeeding issues, and seen Sandy who is a Lactation Consultant.

She is super nice and very helpful... and free! Though I still feel good about seeing Mary Clare, I would definately use the Family Centre on an ongoing basis. Maybe you could book in some regular catch-ups with Sandy until you are feeling better about it.

Anyway - thinking about you and sending positive vibes! I hope things get easier for you.

i agree with kate, whatever road you decide to go down just know that you tried your best!
I would have loved to breastfeed caden fully, but in the end it was such a struggle to keep him latched on and he just didnt want a bar of it! My milk was not filling him up at all and he wasnt gaining enough weight even though i fed him 2 hourly towrds the end of our breastfeeding time. i was upset but when i saw how happy he was having a bottle it made me know i made the right choice for us.

Goodluck with the LC, i really hope it works out for you guys!

Well Mary Clare was awesome, best money I have ever spent, she has given me the confidence to carry on and that I can do this.

still get nervous after each feed as he takes so long to settle I panic he is still hungry but often if I put him back to the boob he just comfort sucks!! Still he is breast feeding for now and thanks to some latching techniques I hopefully won't lose too much more nipple!!!

Wow the johnsonville clinic sounds good too - will be checking that out.

Yay, I'm so pleased your appointment went well.  She is fantastic!

Good luck.  I hope you see major improvements and that you are both happily (and painlessly) breastfeeding soon.
