Topic: Twists and turns Posted: 14 October 2008 at 1:30pm |
I talked to my GP this morning. She talked to the radiographer at Pacific Radiology and apparently there is a possibility that my pregnancy is still viable. The information the sonographer gave me was wrong - he said the development was consistent with an hcg level of about 200 but the radiographer said it could be consistent with a level of 8000 which is what I had last time i was tested. I have to wait to have another scan in a weeks time.
I don't want to hope and wait and week and feel like crap again but its too late part of me is already hoping. I feel so messed around and so abandoned by my specialist who still hasn't been in contact.

OMG VB I can't believe you're getting such contradictory information.
I hope that you get answers soon and that you have a good healthy full term pregnancy with a beautiful healthy baby at the end. God bless you both.

oh boy, what a journey Helen, i would be ringing your specialist and demanding he rings you, that just isnt good enough (especially if you are paying privatley) (in bracks cos not sure if you are or no).
I am thinking about you during this journey

Flimmin heck!
Are they testing your HCG levels along the way or do you have to wait a full three weeks to find out??? I think it's disgusting if you do and you should stomp your feet very loudly at your specialist.
It's nothing to do with me and even i'm angry at reading that!!!!

My specialist doesn't believe in hcg levels but I am getting them done anyway through my GP. However, from what I can see on the internet, including from reputable sources, when you have a blighted ovum your hcg can continue to rise because the yolk sac and placenta continue to grow.
I don't think my specialist is that interested in me because I only paid him to do the recurrent miscarriage investigations and am not paying him to manage my pregnancy. Guess that puts me down the priority list.
However, my GP has been absolutely brilliant, especially given that she is not an expert in any of this stuff. She talked to the radiographer who said that although the standard line is to have another scan in 10-14 days that a week would be long enough to wait and she is referring me for another scan.

So apparently my hcg levels are now about 18000.
The radiographer said he wouldn't necessarily expect to see a fetal pole until 11000. However, as the hcg rose from 8000 to 18000 over a five day period I'm thinking I probably was over 11000 yesterday when I had the scan.
I feel so confused and kind of exhausted right now.

My specialist finally called me and said he thinks that it is very unlikely that the pregnancy is viable. He also said that I am no longer under his care and that I should be going to my midwife to follow up from the scan. Plus he said there is nothing more he can do for me re the recurrent m/cs
My midwife meanwhile also seems to have abandoned me.
I'm feeling pretty wretched right now.

Helen that just sucks! Have you looked into Natural Fertility clinics? They look closer then conventional med and don't disregard anything. I'm not sure where you could try in Wellington but you could contact these guys for recommendations.
Good luck.
