i know you cant eat ham and other deli type foods. what stuff off the subway menu can be eaten. can you have meatball and steak because they are hot etc... the menu items are:

Meatball, Italian BMT (peperoni, salami, ham), Spicy italian (pep, salami), steak and cheese, chicken and bacon ranch, roast beef, turkey, sweet onion chicken teriyaki, and roasted chicken. and tuna

I didn't think\ we were allowed it at all as it sits in the cabinet and isn't prepared fresh even though it's heated. I could be wrong but it will be our first stop on the way home from the hospital as all i want is a salad tuna wrap with heaps of ranch dressing and melted cheese....mmmmm........

i have still eaten it if i craved it.... i have the chicken fillet but ask them to heat it that lil bit extra. i used to wrk there so i know the napier one is pretty good for freshness and the meat and cheese is sitting in a refridgerated cabinet. all in all it each to their own i guess with what you do and dont eat

ETA: you could always have just a vegie one which i found really refreshing

I have eaten it a few times when I've felt like it. I figure when they say not to eat pre-prepared salads etc they are particularly meaning those with dressing already on them. I always make sure to have the hot ones though.

It's probably better for us than having mcdonalds etc too often is my theory.

The only time I've ever had food poisioning was from Subway - I'm guessing from the salad. I would say beware but most people haven't had any issues with it.

I'm pretty anal about what I will and won't eat during pregnancy but I did eat Subway, I just stuck to the hot ones, made them double heat the meat and then toast it. It does make the chicken a bit rubbery but not too bad.

This is one thing ive always been curious about.

A nurse told me to stay away from subway and delis.

SO i have been to wary to go to subway even tho it is my fave fast food place.

However as i was a vege before i got preg i only ever ate the vege delite, would that be worse to eat then a hot meat sub??

I only eat a little bit of meat now, mostly just red meat as i had a bad time with iron pills i figure this is the best way for bubs to get the iron, but i am still more inclined to straight vege food.

so would rather have a vege delite then a hot meat one.

i was going to have one once- was watching the lady serving up the food and she was MAJORLY cross contaminating, i was quite disgusted that i didnt get one.
i watched as she touched the cold meat the using the same hand/glove picked up the salad stuffs to put on the roll.
even if others there had been using diffferent hands etc... the fact that she obviously didnt was enoough to give me warning bells.... listeria written all over it!

I believe so yes, because of the listeria risk - which is reduced/eliminted when food is heated thoroughly.

I've been pretty anal about delis and pre-prepared things and haven't had Subway. I think it's also the smell that puts me off. Bad case of pregnancy nose!
I think its really a case of each to their own tho when it comes to what you eat.

Me three!!! I avoided subway while I was preggers because of the whole pre-prepared salad thing but had never had any problems with it until 2 weeks ago. Mum & I shared a foot long sub & we were both as sick as anything! So I would be kind of careful...

I have had subway a few times but I get them to heat the meat and then have it toasted and by this time they are piping hot. I dont have the likes of the ham, beef turkey ones though

Me four! DH and I had meatballs and was sick as dogs! DH occasionally will eat there but I haven't eaten there since.

I was strict when I was pregnant and wouldn't touch things like that with a barge pole. I went into one subway when I was pg with a friend and it didn't look that great to me. You have to be careful of cross contamination and also if they have washed the salads properly. It doesn't appeal to me that they cook the meats early in the day and it sits there all day then they reheat for you.

I had a Subway in the weekend. It was good. I dont eat the cold meat ones at all, and if its a hot one I ask for chicken fillet and get it heated throughly.

The new Subway opposite the North Shore Hospital is a great Subway they do everything you tell them to.

I have only had 3 throughout my pregnancy, I just usally stick to making food at home or at work.

Subway totally made me sick when I was pregnant. I couldn't even walk into a shopping mall that had a Subway without having to run to the bathroom. The smell was horrendous to me. It was so bad that one day I had to pull over to the side of the road and throw up when I heard an ad on the radio advertising Subway LOL!

Don't risk it. Its just not that yummy

Hearing that three people have had food poisoning from subway plus evidence of serious cross contamination, there is no way I'd risk it.

I love it and have a friend who manages one, I have no concerns about cross contamination etc, but I don't have the chicken ones and I only have them toasted. I've only had it about once a month.

I'm a vego so the meat doesn't worry me but the cross contamination does. Also the risk of toxic plasmosis (sp?) through vegies that aren't washed properly. My doc said the risk of contracting it that way is getting almost as bad as through kitty pooh. I'm sure Subway's have strict procedures about food prep and storage but that doesn't mean that every 16 year old part time staff member is going to follow them to the letter.

But I miss it.......It's my favorite.......sigh
