Topic: Tips for turning posterior bubs? Posted: 11 October 2008 at 3:21pm |
Does anyone have some tried & true methods for turning bubs? He was anterior up until yesterday & there is a likelihood that i will go into labour this weekend (which is almost over) but i'm not sure i will until he turns then my mw thinks it will all start pretty quick. any tips for turning him would be appreciated. I have been doing the hands & knees thing but it hurts my wrists & neck etc & am currently sitting backwards on a chair. Am also trying to make conscious effort to sit forward rather than leaning backwards. please help, want this baby out now......

Have you tried getting on your hands and knees in a deep bath and staying like that for a while? I've heard that sometimes helps, and the water should help relieve the pain in your wrists and neck. Good luck!

thanks kakapo, just tried to have a bath & lay on my tummy (not with pressure) etc to try encourage the wee man to move. not sure if it helped or not, guess time will tell. Sadly we don't have a deep bath so limited to what i could do but it did definitely feel good to have the weight off my back. Does anyone know if he HAS to turn for me to go into labour? he is d3-4 so i can imagine it would be quite hard for him to turn. MW said yesterday that once the first set of contractions start coming is when to go on hands & knees, but i have been doing it since she was here at 2pm yesterday. bit of insight, i've been having contractions on and off for over two weeks now. hence why i just want him out

mines posterior as well and ive been told to get on the floor for half and hour a day hands and knees - what you've been doing, sitting forward and letting your tummy hang between your legs, not to lay with your feet up and sleep on my left as much as possible.
Other things i have heard of trying is sleeping on your tummy if you can use pillows to support you and having that deep bath that kakapo mention above.

Go swimming. You can lay in the pool floating with your arms on the side of the pool and stay there for ages

thanks, what is the cat stretch? Can't really go swimming as have V to look after. Am really hoping that things happen tonight & he comes out. Just tried that couch thing, man that felt weird. i don't want him to pop out of the pelvis tho which is my concern. Tried lying on my tummy but was weird. also because he is already 4/5 engaged don't know if it will do much?

Have you got a swiss ball? You could try resting your arms on that on your knees instead of putting all the pressure on your hands.
From what I understand bubs doesn't *have* to turn but posterior labour doesn't sound like a lot of fun!
JJ was anterior for months and months, then one day just flipped around, grrr, I had a kinesiology session to encourage him to turn and either it worked or he did it himself within another day (I felt him turn, while I was in the bath). So bubs might just decide to do it by himself!
Also don't worry about popping him out of the pelvis, since this isn't your first it doesn't matter so much if he's engaged or not, it's not uncommon for subsequent kids to only engage in labour

Chonny my cousin had a posterior baby. she had him on the 29th sept but she was having contractions on and of for about 3 days prior to it really kicking in. It is possible for labour to start I suppose coz hers did. she was 5 days early also. I dont want to scare you but she told me her labour was the worse labour ever, very long and painful back labour. She had twins vaginally 2 years ago and she said that was easy compared to this labour and he was only 6lb...I hope something starts for you tonight or within the next few days hun....Best of Luck .... Heres some labour vibes...

thanks mumof72b. My mw said it doesn't necesarily mean it's more painful, just longer coz they have to do long rotation not short rotation. i can only presume labour would start coz as i say, she said that once i start getting contractions to go on hands n knees.
No don't have a swiss ball. I think that since my body did it last time, i'm going to try & trust my body. i will deffinately make sure tho that i am active & leaning over as much as i can during the labour. having a home water birth, so yea, kinda gotta focus on getting thru it anyways

Good on you for having a home birth. Have you got the hire pool yet? Cause if you do, couldn't you fill that up and use it to see if bubs will turn? Guess the only risk would be that if bubs turned and labour started quickly you mightn't have time to refill the pool?

never even thought of using the pool kakapo! what a brilliant idea. i will check with my midwife when/if i see her tomorrow & see if she thinks it will help. I wouldn't need to refill it, just re-heat it. But thanks, i hadn't even thought of that!

No worries Chonny - hope you can use the pool and that it helps.
I think the cat stretch thing is where your on your hands and knees and arch your back upwards (like cats often do). Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

oh wonderful, thanks for the pics. that's certainly a big help. i see mw at 2.30 so hoping she will give an indication as to where he is. i can't tell if he's just hiding to the side now or still posterior. V was anterior the entire time so it's all new to me
