Topic: Pregnancy Hormones & Moods Posted: 08 October 2008 at 10:44am |
I had a massive meltdown last week. A proper full-on childish tantrum.
I also have moments where I'm getting angry for no reason, and I can hear myself saying horrible things. I know I'm doing it but I can't stop myself.
Does anyone else get this? I'm usually so calm and rational.
My friend tells me it's pregnancy hormones and she's now convinced I'm carrying a girl as apparantly she was affected like this with her DD and also knows some other people that were too - but who were all very nice people when they were carrying their boys.

I had a major meltdown in my first trimester. I literally cried over bread, for hours and then I fell asleep and woke up a few hours later and started crying again (even now, 3 years on, I feel silly but kind of justified as well).

I had major mood swings during my pregnancy. I'd have both happy and 'blue' days. Poor DH was walking on eggshells for a lot of it.
I found taking Flaxseed tables helped regulate my hormones and my blue days weren't so many anymore

Thanks MrsMojo - that's brilliant. I feel all normal and proper and ok now
Absolutely love the nacho one and the quarterpounder one "you don't care what I want"
What a guilt trip on a poor DH. Brilliant!

I know the feeling!
I found myself swearing (I really am the most rational person) at my boss! I told where to go and walked out of the office and went hom for the day. I was so full of anger that I was kicking things all the way home.
I felt so silly going into work the next day!!!
I might try the Flaxseed suggestion, work and poor DP are suffering big time

Oh no! At your boss??! That would have been scary going back
I was a little teary I guess in the 1st tri, but mostly because I felt sorry for myself for having ms.
Yesterday I cried doing the dishes for no reason what so ever. Then I cried when dh got home because I hadn't made tea, then I also cried because I had this crazy idea that my amniotic fluid was reducing dramatically, then of course there was shortland st to cry over.
I haven't had the blind rage. Yet.

Oh Spirals, this all sounds so like me!
The irrational anger. Even though I can be quite short tempered normally, like you, I now feel I'm being irrational WHILE I'm at it. Which actually pisses me off, and then I take it out even more on DH. (Poor poor man)
Then, the crying about nothing.
And at work I'm usually very patient (unlike at home), but I find I just can't take as much at the moment. Which really bothers me because I'm an early childhood teacher. But some of the kids just really get to me at the moment and I can't shake it off as easily as I used too.
By the way, I'm also carrying a girl.

Ok, I KNOW I bought a pair of Size 2 Egg jeans. I'm sure I did!
I've ripped the house apart and they are no where to be found. Perhaps I dreamt it.....

I definately had the anger thing going on, especially while I was still working. Poor DH got it in the neck a lot, I would snap, shout and just say mean things really.
One day we got to work and he sent me an email saying you need to be nicer to me, I cried a lot, and sent him a link on hormones and then after that he didn't take it so personally. I don't think he had any idea how much we can be affected.
Since stopping work, I am a lot calmer, I think for me, too many hormones and too much tiredness is just a recipe for being a grumpy lady.

Its all hormones I hope - if not then I am somehow morphing into a the moodiest - most hard to please - person ever!!
I feel so sorry for my DH. I cry over everything, the cats, him watching sport, at the supermarket, in traffic - it just ridiculous.
Heaps of our friends who are Dads have told him that while Im pregnant he should agree with everything I say or want, apparently thats the best option. Poor thing. Only five more months of psycho wife.
Im just glad everyone else seems to going a bit nuts.
