Ava is now 1 month old. How often should i be breastfeeding her? And should i wake her to feed at night - last night she slept from 7.30pm-1.30am when i woke up, freaked out that she hadnt fed, and woke her. And what is considered 'night time' - is it after 10pm? or after 7pm?

Every 3hrs during the day is a good rule to go by, at night though, if she wants to sleep I say let her sleep, she will wake when she gets hungry. I considered night time to be from 7pm-7am or there abouts

I agree - just let her sleep for as long as possible at night - especially if she is putting on good weight.

You are doing really well to have her sleeping that long from 7:30 - wow an evening to yourselves at 1mth old! A lot of babies will cluster feed throughout the evening and then go for a longer sleep after that.

Let Ava guide you how much she wants during the day. Are you in a sleep, feed, play routine? If so, just feed her when she wakes, but perhaps don't let her go longer than 4 hrs during the day. You want her to get enough calories during the day that she doesn't need as much at night. You can also ask your midwife what she suggests.

I agree with DJ, as long as she is gaining weight well then let her sleep at night. I wake my babies 3 hourly during the day and do a one hour feed-play-sleep routine with them for day feeds, then put them down at 7pm after a bath. I "dreamfeed" (feed without waking/changing etc.) them at 10.30pmish before I go to bed then leave them to it. Initially I find they'll sleep from 10.30pm till say 2am then it gradually gets longer and now at 12 weeks lil miss is doing 10.30pm till 6.30am most nights. She's technically in bed from 7.30pm tho so I do get my evenings to myself.
