As some of you know, I'm rather overdue lol. Talked about inductions earlier in the week with my MW but then it seemed like I still had ages of time. But tomorrow is the day I get referred to the hospital, and Monday I'll head in. So I do still have a few days but am not experiencing any signs that things will happen in the next few days.
Just wondering if you could let me know your experiences of being induced? I particularly want to be able to move around as I wish and use different positions to cope. Were you able to do this? And how did the baby cope? Did your induction result in any emergencies eg CS or probs with the placenta?

Hey there,

If you press the search function up beside active topics it brings up a screen. Type in induction and search all forums and there are heaps of threads about inductions!!!

I was induced and loved the experience. I don't think it is as bad as everyone makes out. I could still move around until I had my epidural (more because of extremely high BP and PE rather than the pain). My wee man was fine until the very end but that was more to do with my BP and not being able to push for a long period of time. I had a VB and no placenta problems.

Loved my birth experience.

I was induced and becuase I have nothing to compare it to, I had no moajor problems.

I had the gel and my waters broken at 6pm, went on the drip at midnight and had my boy at 10.54am the next morning.  It sucked not being able to move around (as I had 2 monitors on all the time) but when they did let me off to go to the toilet the contractions were so strong that I couldn't walk anyway!!  I had a shot of pethidine and no epidural, the pain was bad, but not unbearable.  I ended up with stitches from a tear.  No c-section, no emergencies of any kind.  No placenta probs.  Baby was very pale straight after birth so they whipped him off to SCBU, but found nothing wrong and he was back 15 minutes after.

Best of Luck!!

i had three inductions... one i was pretty much bed ridden and he was born by ventouse, two was spent mostly in the bath at the hospital and he practically shot out and took the mw unaware and three resulted in an emergency c section.

If you have to have the synto via drip then they will need to monitor you and you will have to stay on the bed or at least connected to the drip which makes it hard to walk around anyway. if contractions start on "their own" with just the gel and progress well then you should be able to walk around and use diff positions etc. as to walking around in the beginning they recommend you do that as often as possible when they first put in the gel to help get things going...

good luck. you may go into labour anyway...

Yep do a search as there are heaps of topics about it. Both my boys were inductions due to pre eclampsia and both were natural deliveries.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I was also induced and it went very well, gel in the morning at 8am, contractions by 9.15 which got stronger till 1pm. Epi about 1pm then syntocin started at 2.20pm. DD was born at 5.25pm. Easy!

I agree it sucked not being able to move around but in all honesty, I would go through it again in a heartbeat exactly the same. It was very easy!

Mine was a failed induction resulting in a c-section. I didn't enjoy the experience at all! But I'm only one out of six so far in this thread!

I've had one spontaneous labour and 2 inductions and I loved my inductions!

Gremlins I was already 4cm dilated so my m/w broke my waters, contractions didn't start straight away so they started a synto drip 2 hours in and within 6 hours from when my waters were broken both babies were out. No problems, normal VB with one tiny stitch. I was stuck to the bed as I had an epi put in prior to induction to enable my m/w and OB to "manage" the labour coz being twins it was a bit higher risk.

With Chiara I had the gel in at 8am, walked around the hospital till about 2pm, had my waters broken at 2.30pm and synto started at 3pm, contractions started properly around 3.45pm and Chiara flew out at 5.21pm so the whole process was really speedy! I was stuck to the bed to start with as I had to stay on a monitor but then I thought walking around might help with the pain so my m/w put a scalp clip on baby's head and I was able to get up. I ended up back on the bed lol coz walking around made it worse! Had no pain relief at all, no complications until delivery when she got stuck half way out due to the cord being tightly round her neck but that would have happened whether I was induced or not. My m/w cut the cord while she was still in the birth canal and then she was delivered.

My induction was just about identical to Emmas with Chiara, was fine, no problems at all.
Good luck

I was induced. First time it failed, had to wait a week with a nasty irritable uterus, then the second try resulted in me being strapped to the bed with monitors on - wasnt even allowed to get up and pee. Didnt end up progressing and had a C section which is what I wanted in the first place. I wasnt overdue however - so it was probably different than your poor wee self.
Good luck tho, i'm sure everything will go easy and you'll go into labour before monday!

I loved my induction it was so much nicer then both my boy's, but then i was in a total differnt head space this time round which i think also helped the process along. I never had to have the drip tho only thing they did was the jell and then my water were broken for me.
ETA: I went to the hospital at 9am was home with bub's by 11pm. Quiest ever both boy's went on over night.

I was induced as my waters were leaking. Had tape put in at about 1130am and waters broke at 1pm. Contractions on and off for the afternoon but nothing happening so at 7pm they sent DH home and i stayed in for th night. Had contractions through the night but nothing I couldnt really sleep through. Next morning I was 4cm dilated so at 930am they put the drip in and Lily arrived at 1253, just in time for lunch!! I had no drugs bar a few puffs on the gas which made me feel sick so i stopped nd DH helped me through the contractions. No complications, placenta was fine and i had a few internal stitches. Because of the drip i had to be on the monitor the whole time bit they changed it to a wireless one so i could move around but to be honest, i preferred staying on the bed (and i had planned to be able to walk around!). I would have liked to spend some time in water but it all happened rather quick so didn't miss that part of the plan either. It was good experience for me

oh, and i was 41 weeks and 1 day overdue. I my waters weren't leaking they wouldnt have induced for another 5 days as id had a trouble free pregnancy and she was very happy in there. I did have a friend go 18 days over recently. They delayed induction because they had no beds! That would have sucked!!

Hi, Ive had inductions with all 6 of my girls. I only had the gel & syntocin once and it went fine, All my other inductions were eaither ARM's, Or S&S's....It is good to be able to walk around in the beginning as being upright can help especially because bubs head will be putting pressure on your cervix which in turn should make you dialate. Everyones induction is different so try not to worry to much about failing to progress. When You go in for your induction have a open and positive mind. I'd say Tuesday-Wednesday at the latest you should be holding your little girl.....

Best of Luck...

Heres some labour vibes just for good measure.

I was induced but for pre eclampsia 2 weeks early not sure if being early makes a difference but I hated it but would do it again (instead of going full term with the pre eclampsia) I had the gel at 730 thursday night and waters didnt break until saturday morning! had 3 lots of gel to get things going! and then it was another 12-13 hours after my waters broke to having him, I couldnt move was on the bed but to be honest think that was easier to deal with than standing as I could zone out more, ended up having a vontouse, all the best xox

alright so I'm off to the hospital in...14 hours! To start being induced. Am really hoping seems I'm so far over already that my cervix is co-operative lol and opens fairly easily. I cant; believe how long inductions can take!!! Oh well, it's all for good reason. My BP has risen heaps in the last week and have 2++ protein in urine and a baby that's stopped moving much...so time to stop mucking round and get her out!!!
Thanks for all your lovely thoughts and comments. Hopefully I will be on here soon telling you all about it

I was induced at 42 weeks. Took 6 gel applications over 3 days to get 1cm dilated. Panicked when they said that cos I expected to have a csection the next day due to the failed induction. Next morning, broke waters, put synto on and epidural in. Highly recommend epis - means you can sleep! 14 hours later Daniel was born by ventouse.   Apparently it's "normal" to take up to 3 days for the induction to work, so just bear that in mind.
