Hi there,

We have 3 beautiful children aged 4, 2 and 1. I have never carried full term, my first pregnancy I got to 37 weeks, my second pregnancy I got to 34 weeks and with my third pregnancy my waters broke at 30 weeks and they managed to give me drugs so he wasnt born until 32 weeks.

We are thinking of having another child but I am concerned that I would go into labour before 30 weeks as the pregnancies are getting shorter each time.

Can anyone offer any thoughts, ideas or advice!! Or is anyone else in a similar situation??

I have no advice to offer, but my mum had me at 39 weeks, was induced at 35 weeks with my brother then 36 weeks with my sister coz her waters broke early and then with my youngest brother her waters broke at 27 weeks but with drugs and 9 weeks bedrest in hospital he was born at 36 weeks. She was advised after that tho not to have any more as they didn't know why her waters kept breaking and it kept getting earlier and earlier.

Could you talk to your OB or m/w about it? They would know your history and might be able to offer some insight. Also if you go into it knowing that your waters might break early they can be proactive about keeping bubs in as long as possible, giving steroid shots to help bubs lungs from a certain gestation etc.

Chances are - from what i know now, and from the history you've given - once might be a fluke, but 3 times i would dare say you yes, sorry you would most likely be at risk for another premmie. It may not necessarily be earlier, but definately the more premmies you have i think the higher chance that it will be the same next time. Is there anything they have been able to attribute it to, or is it just random.

Hmm
Well I had Paige at 37weeks...then Blake at 35 and Brennan tried to come at 32.....With lots of drugs and pain he arrived at 37.....

SO I guess you have a right to be concerned however there are lots of ways they can stop labour now and they are pretty up with the play with prem bubs too so I wouldnt let the thought worry you.

Oh, 2girlsandaboy - I can't really sympathise but I'm also freaked about a second premmie I am slowly coming to terms with my first premmie, DD, born at 33wks and the time and bonding lost - however I fear having another. I really want another bubby soon but I just can't get this fear out of my mind to make the leap. I have no idea how you managed to have three, let alone considering four!

Sometimes I feel really bad for fearing an early baby when our girl was generally healthy and we have friends who've had multiple stillbirths but I just can't get it out of my head

Can I ask - were there medical reasons for your early arrivals? There was no medical reason for ours and so I'll not get any special or extra monitoring next time around (which I don't think is helping my attitude on the matter).

I wish you loads of luck, I know you'll make the right decision for your family either way. I think I'm going to have to just get to the point where I take the leap and hope for the best

Let us know how you go!

Hi

The frustrating thing is that they have found no medical reason for the babies to come early.

I just freak out because I know how hard it was last time.

Ive made an appointment to see a doc at the hospital to see if there is anything we can do.

Thanks
