MY TWO WEEK OLD LITTLE MAN IS AN ABSOLUTE PEACH DURING THE DAY - BUT COME 10.30PM GETS REALLY DISTRESSED FOR UP TO 4 HOURS! SOME CRYING, FUSSING, WHEEZING, ARCHING HIS BACK, SPILLING AFTER A FEED (BREAST), HICCUPPING (A LOT!), VERY NOISY BREATHING, PANTING, FARTING LIKE A TROOPER, JUST WON'T SETTLE. HE LOOKS PAINED. IS THIS COLIC OR REFLUX? IT CAN GO ON ALL NIGHT! ANY ADVICE? WOULD ANYONE RECOMMEND GRIPE WATER?

To me it doesn't really sound like reflux just because they usually show signs of pain etc at every feed, not just at night. I don't really have any experience with colic though. Poor bubba and mum! Gripe water worked well for us at helping wind.

Wind can build up during the day and be worse at night. I would try gripe water- it seemed to work for us.

Have you got the latest little treasures mag? there is an article with a good burping technique in it - could summarise if you are interested?

Argh it's hard work isn't it! Hang in there!

Aww poor lil guy. Doesn't sound like reflux to me, but yeah definitely like wind and maybe a bit of colic (I don't know about colic, the only thing I know is they're usually unsettled in the evenings).

Sounds like gripe water would be worth a try.

Hope he's feeling better soon!

Is it a mix of needing to cluster-feed and being over tired?

Sounds like colic to me (Caitlin had colic) and the only thing that helped was infacol. I get the wheezing checked out though

Yep Colic id say, caden gets it sometimes and he gets just like that, very distressed and upset and goes all ridgid and just screams.

I put infacol in his bottle at every single feed and it had REALLY helped, it stops his wind building up and turning into colic at night.

So before each breastfeed id give him some infacol and honestly its brilliant stuff!! You can get it at the supermarket Which reminds me! I need to go buy some more.

Sounds like you'd be helped by taking him to a Plunket family centre for a day and just letting them observe his routine etc - or does it only ever happen at nights?

I agree with everyone else, it does sound like colic. Are you still under a midwife? She might be able to offer some suggestions.
