Topic: Scans - whats the earliest? Posted: 09 August 2008 at 4:17pm |
I didn't know if I should pop this in first or preg or general, so here it is..
Whats the earliest you can get a scan and see if the embryo is in the right place? I can't be assed going to my docs to ask them without any other reason for going but I do know my doc will send me off for a scan when i need to. I know you can see at 6 weeks as thats when they found my ectopic, but can you see earlier? Bloods aren't conclusive early on so I can't use that, mine kept doubling like normal last time.
I'm just trying to prepare a little plan on how I'm going to ride out the time between getting a positive preg test and finding out if its ectopic again or normal.

Much higher.. usually its 1/100 for normal people with no known problems. It's now 1/20 for a repeat. Plus they don't know what actually caused it last time and I didn't have the tube removed. It's still fairly unlikely but knowing that the chances have increased by that much still is a worry for me and I know i'm going to stress myself out with any niggles and pains and just in general until I know

Aw that's tough! I was worried bout the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy this time around because I had major pains around 6wks. Had a scan then and they could tell the egg sac was in my uterus (much to my relief) but couldn't see much else. I'm not sure how early that would become clear?
All the best - hope all goes smoothly for you

I had one at 5wks for a dating scan. I was suppose to be 7.4wks from LMP but they just went with the date the scan said, so I was 5.4wks and there was a heart beat.

I had one at 3 weeks (didn't know I was pg) and the egg was apparently still very high in the uterus, but the lady said she could see it. Obviously they can't tell your pregnant at that stage though.
Mine at 7 weeks was very clear though.

I just got my scans out and I had my earliest at 5 wks 4 days (to rule out ectopic) and they could see everything was in the right place and that there was 'cardiac activity' = heartbeat?

Once hcg reads over 2000 they can see the pregnancy, there won't be a heartbeat or anything though as it will just be tiny but they will be able to tell if its in the right place.

I had one at 5w3d with the gremlins and they could see where the pregnancy was located, the point of that scan was to rule out an ectopic as I'd been having pain (and was majorly paranoid!). In your case they'll probably do another scan a couple of weeks later just to be sure as there is a very, very, small chance that you can have an intrauterine pregnancy and an ectopic at the same time (twins where one egg implants inutero and one in the tube).

It's 1500 to see the pregnancy and 2000 to see a heartbeat, they don't guarantee you'll see a heartbeat over 2000 but you definitely *won't* see one before then.

I just remembered, my hCG's the day before my 5 week scan with the gremlins were 5500 and we saw the gestational sac + yolk sac.

I just remembered my hcg with the mc was only 331 and yet they were still able to see a pregnancy in the uterus. It was tiny though, only a couple of mm.
I must of been thinking about seeing the heartbeat with the 2000 level.

Surprisingly I'm not really that concerned with seeing the heartbeat. Just where the pregnancy is. My doc told me ages ago he would send me for a couple of early scans so I know I'll get to see the heartbeat at another stage but for my own sanity I want one as early as possible just to put my mind at rest about where it is.

I had mine at 5 weeks. Had to have a lovely thing called a vaginal probe though. Tech could see very clearly where baby was.
