Would you take your 6 1/2 month old baby swimming in a (heated) public pool?

I'm planning on taking Thomas after his 3 month shots. So yes, i'd take a 6.5 month old to the pools. Hell they have babies swimming classes so it cant be all that bad.

Thanks MissAngel

The reason I'm questioning it is that I figure most babies swimming classes are in private pools (as in, specifically for teaching swimming, not just for anyone and everyone to swim in all the time), so not sure about the hygiene?

Yea i'd assume it would be as hygeinic as they can get it - the chlorine levels are supposed to be lower than the big persons pools etc

I would and I have. Maya had her first swim at about 6 weeks and was swimming regularly from 4 mths. I put the gremlins in lessons at 6 mths but with all their ear infections we had to give it up coz we missed more than we were able to go to. Am hoping Chiara will have more luck with her ears.

Yay Liz!
We're taking Hannah swimming once the weather warms up a little.
Any excuse to go shopping for a new swimsuit - for Hannah, not me. I'm not ready, either

Most swimming lessons done for babies and toddlers at the public pools are done in heated "toddler" pools.

I took both my boys swimming at about 3 months, and when we aren't all sick we go at least twice here in Waiouru, only because it is free for us!!!

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Yay Liz, that will be fun!! I can't wait to take Chloe but it's just so cold down here, I will wait for summer. Don't think I will be hopping in with her, make Daddy do it if you don't want to

I did, but it was January. We take Caleb most weekends but he's 13 months now so he's a bit hardier.

Issy loves it ... however the toddler pools is super warm! I wouldnt want her going in the main pool which is just tepid.

Since she has been "swimming" since 3 months old she is like a lil tadpole now! Hmm actually her action is more frog like lol

I want Keziah to go to swimming too, but I want to wait until it warms up a little first!! She LOVES 'swimming' in the bath and at the end of summer we had her sitting in a little yellow tub outside and she liked that too, but she was a little younger so it'll be interesting to see how she gets on

Yep, we took Greer swimming last weekend and she's not 6 months yet. Chickens not hopping in yourselves! I had to get in so we had one each, and no one can see you once you are in.

In Masterton they won't take baby's under 4 months for the swimming lessons, something to do with the chemicals on their skin??? But after that it's in the public, heated pools and they dunk their heads so must be ok

Liz the pools should be fine. I used to team children to swim and 6.5 months is fine. The water should be fine too as it should be chlorinated which keeps the water clean and kills most germs. Chlorine is pretty much like bleech. If there are any accidents like vomit or number 2's everyone should be asked to leave the water until its cleaned out and more chlorine added to kill the germs off.

Have fun. Im sure Harry will just love it
