Hiya,

Just wondering...has anyone else suffered with this and needed hospitalisation? (severe vomiting and nausea during pregnancy).
If you have, have you had more children/pregancies and did you have hyperemisis again?
I'm just trying to consider whether or not to have more children as I don't think I could go through it again with a young child. Actually I wouldn't want to go through again full stop!

Pick me, and yes, I got it every time And yes it was waaay worse trying to cope with hyperemesis and a toddler (or two in my case). When I was preg with the gremlins Maya was 3 and she learnt to get herself up in the morning and help herself to crackers and fruit then turn her DVD on coz I couldn't get out of bed. Plus she was at preschool so all I had to do was get her there and then I could rest/sleep/throw up all day.

With Chiara I ended up in hospital at 7 weeks when I got so sick that I couldn't stand up without vomitting. The morning I went to hospital poor Maya had to take complete care of the gremlins who were only 13 mths at the time coz I physically could not get out of bed. Even when the worst of it passed and I was on a cocktail of antiemetics I still found them very hard to cope with, right up until I delivered Chiara in fact, feeling so revolting 24-7 is just so debilitating.

Oh crumbs. It really IS debilitating. Did you have it the entire pregnancy? I did and like you, couldn''t stand until about 25 weeks. I couldn't have a teaspoon of water without being sick. I couldn't even speak for a whole month because I had no energy.
My little angel was so worth it. Í had probems with my kidneys at the end so they induced me. I don't think my body could handle it again and I would need a full time care giver for both of us.
I love my little girl so much and am soooo greatful for her. Wish I could have more though, easily. My specialist recommended no more and I feel bit sad!!

Yep With Maya I vomited every day from 8 weeks till 16 weeks and spent the rest of the time feeling crap, with the gremlins and Chiara it started at 5 weeks and I vomited every day until the day I gave birth, I was literally throwing up in the bathroom sink as we were walking out the door for my induction both times. I also had ptyalism (excessive saliva), so bad that I was going thru a box of tissues a day just to get it all out coz swallowing it made the nausea/vomiting worse. It's stripped all the enamel from my teeth and I had chronic heartburn where the acid in the saliva burnt my oesophagus. I was induced with Chiara on mental health grounds largely brought about by me being depressed from feeling so crappy. With the gremlins my m/w and I fudged the dates to get the OB to induce me earlier coz he sooo wasn't getting how desperate I was!

Oh and I was hospitalised with hyperemesis with Maya and Chiara but not with the gremlins, with them I had daily IV fluids at the GP's to avoid being admitted to hospital.

As witness to the sickness Emma had I was watching in utter disbelief as the poor girl spewed in the car park, after spewing her guts out all morning at home

I wasn't as bad as you ladies, hospitalised at 11.5 weeks and IV fluids from Saturday 2pm until about 8pm on the Monday night, and had lost enough weight for me to be concerned - they ended up running the bags thru faster because they weren't happy with the output even after a couple of bags. I also ended up back on an IV line at 32.5 weeks when I started throwing up again - partially due to the flu, but I couldn't keep anything down.

I eventually stopped throwing up about 19/20 weeks, so was guttered to start again later. It is something that weighs on my mind when talking about a potential No.2

Yep, with all three pregnancies

Poor Kels didn't quite know what to do when I was bringing up my breakfast in the carpark, I think people walking past thought I was drunk or something

My OB with the gremlins had a habit of wearing way too much aftershave, it was enough to make me dry wretch.

DH couldn't even wear deoderant with my first pregnancy! This time around I have hyperemesis again but it's being partially controlled by a load of drugs, so only throwing up a few times a day now, and haven't had to go to hospital this time yet. So fingers crossed it's not going to get as bad as last time. It's pretty hard to cope with a 6 month old baby.

It lasted until 3 weeks before Chloe was due, last time. Can't tell you about this time, yet but I'm hoping the magic 12 weeks will actually BE magic this time

There is hope.
I was hospitalized twice with number 1, it was horrible, vomiting upwards of 20 times a day and losing 15kg.
The IV drugs were great but as soon as i went home it started again.
Did anyone find it worse when you were at home? I would be out, feeling ok but have to rush to the toilet or closest bush as soon as i pulled in the driveway.
I still cant smell Glade lavender without feeling sick! and perfume was just horrible. A mall assistant actually sprayed me with perfume on my way into Farmers. I was so upset and nauseous I had to go home and shower!
i was terrified of getting pregnant again becuase of the sickness and i think i have an actual phobia of vomiting now, but oops, there came a number 2 baby... thankfully i was only sick a handful of times, still quite nauseous and i still dont want to get pregnant again but at least it wasnt as bad as the first time.
My best tip:
Have a bottle of lemon essence on you! it relaxes your stomach and diverts your senses to a better smell.
Why is it that your sense on smell increases when you just want it to turn off!

Heck, I can't believe you guys have gone back for seconds...and thirds!!!!

I so want more babies!!! Hubby says NO. I think he found my pregnancy as hard as I did!

I really can't imagine having a 6 month old baby and being so sick.

I have never been soooo skinny as when I was pregnant....and now I've gotten fat!! Damn it. Was hoping to stay at least a bit skinny for a bit but didn't work like that.

Just reading all the things that you guys were put off...mine is toilet duck....ha ha! Well I spent most of the time with my head down the toilet I guess.

I kicked hubby out of or bed too because every time he rolled over it made me sick. Maybe that''s why he doesn't want anymore...cause he doesn't like sleeping on the couch all the time....

Believe me, I was terrified of being pregnant again and it wasn't meant to happen! Lol. But it DID happen so I really have no choice but to go through it, now.

LOL I'm the same, every time DH rolls over I jab him and whinge until he faces back the other way. And he's not allowed to wear deoderant or drink alcohol, it makes me so sick. At the moment my worst enemies are the smell of perfumes, especially in our detergent!! So gross.
