Topic: Men getting the snip Posted: 05 May 2006 at 10:40am |
Has anyone had their menfolk get this done?
I'm trying to convince Spencer to get the snip because I REALLY don't want anymore babies and just wondering what the process is? And how to get him past all the "horror" stories of sex not feeling the same afterwards.
Any words of advice would be very much appreciated!

my husband is getting the snip after this baby.... he isnt looking forward to it, but he will do it (alternative is condoms forever, as i dont want to go back on the pill lol) We were talking with my sister in law and brother, and she said that my bro is going to get one too, so the boys then decided to have a vascectomy weekend at the casino in chch - i told them they would look ridiculous sitting at the pokies with a bag of frozen peas on their groins.
Now another friend of hubbys is going to join the party too - he liked the weekend away part.
to be honest, i have never heard of horror stories about sex not being the same after...... i imagine that using condoms forever and ever would be a worse option though!

My DH had it done in 1999 as we decided that we didn't want any children, then in 2004 when my biological clock started ticking he had it undone again! What a guy! The reversal was successful.
I haven't had a pregnancy yet, but after we have had our children DH said he will go and get it done again!
The initial snip was not too bad. A bit of pain for a couple of days, but he was back to work after the weekend. The reversal was a lot worse, but it still only took about a week for full recovery. Sex did not change a bit after either operation. His sex drive, performance, enjoyment, etc are all the same.

Willie abslutely point blank refuses - I think he thinks of himself as some great fertility God and he just wouldn't be the same afterwards. But I have decided that all going well with the twins, I will have my tubes tied. There will be no more babies for us!
But a friend had teh snip a couple of years ago and has been quite "sharing" with the details - he reckons it hasn't affected anything 'down there'and apart from a couple of days of tenderness he wouldn't have even known he's had it.

Actually he heard the horror stories from my stepdad of all people! Grrr I was so annoyed. My stepdad will tell anyone who will listen that its not the same afterwards. I actually think it is more a physchological thing for my stepdad coz he had to have it done twice......my little brother Chris arrived 2 years after he got the snip done the first time.
Anyway what do you have to do to get it done? Do you see a doctor or what? And any ideas how much it costs?
My man would rather do without sex I think than get the snip done but I'm not putting up with being celibate until menopause LOL!

I don't have the option of getting my tubes tied unless for medical reasons as my blood disorder means that I pretty much have to justify all surgery BEFORE they'll consider it!
Nat's not too sure about getting the snip one day... but I think he realises that if that is the path we go down, he'll be the one going in.

My DH had it done privately, mainly because our health insurance covered the cost 100%. I think it was about $350, but that was over six years ago. The reversal in 2004 cost $850 to go private, with the same Dr who had done the original op. You can go on a waiting list to have the vasectomy done at the public hospital for free, but I think if it were my thing they were going to snip, I would opt for private. You are in and out within an hour for both ops. Just need someone to drive him home as they give out some great pain killers that made my DH a little delusional.

Also, a vasectomy is such a minor op compared to what woman have to go through to get tubes tied, that it's only fair that the men have the op!

My husband had it done about 6 months ago and it was his idea. We heard so many horror stories but decided it was much less invasive for him than me to be done. (wouldn't have worried me though) It took us some convincing for them to perform it as Sam was only 6months old and both of us in our mid 30's. They don't like to perform it just in case something happens to your new bub.
So $300, 20minutes at the Dr's, an afternoon of alternating frozen peas and corn down his pants and all is done. My husband put his swimming togs on that have that built in mesh bit so the peas would sit nicely
He was uncomfortable for the 1st couple of days but nothing too bad. He unfortunately got an infection on the inside of one of his scrotum's which caused him some pain for a while. The cuts themselves look revolting as they heal as it heals layer by layer and you actually see that.
So all in all it's no biggie and in comparison to giving birth they should be uncomfortable and in pain just for a little bit of equality!!!!
Ohh and evrything works just fine.........

I think my Dad must be the offical spokesperson for Vasectomy's are Us. he will tell anyone that will listen (namely my uncles who he thinks have too many kids) how great they are. It kind of freaks me out a little - I mean, he's my Dad. Sooooo don't want to think about it!

my hubby is getting one done sometime after this baby is born, he'd talked to his doc i think not long after we had our second baby and at the time doc said they'd prefer to leave it as he was 25. but i think 3 children should be enough to justify getting it done now!
neither of us know much about what he'll have to go through and i feel sooooooooo mean, but i will never touch the pill again, havent since a bad experience back in 2000. and hubby hates condoms, its his only way if he wants to get any lving from me!!! NO MORE BABIES THANKS! lol.

Hubby and I have talked and once we're sure we're done with kids he'll have it done. He has no probs with this as his dad had it done and there were no problems, no side effects or changes or anything.

Yep I dragged my hubby (kicking & screaming!!) along to get his 'dack n hack' last year . We (well maybe "me") decided it was only fair as I had trouble finding a pill that agreed with me and the Implanon made me put on heaps of weight (which can be hard enough to shift after u've had a couple of kids right girls?)I think there are a couple of diff methods they can use, but we got one where they cut & cortorise the tube completely (far less chance of regrowth etc). The Dr we used also flushed out any existing semen beforehand so that it wouldn't take as long to be able to resume normal sex without preg risks . Apart from being a bit sore n bruised hubby was find n only had 2 days off work. And... as for the sex... it couldn't be better! Neither one of us has noticed any changes (performance wise)but its gr8 being able 2 b spontaneous without the stress of "oh oh". So all in all I'd recomment it :)

Ive told hubby he is getting it and both my sisters want thier hubbys done to so we were thinking of asking for a group booking! DH has heard a couple of horror stories from guys at his work so is a bit nervous but to bad really, Ive had enough of taking care of things and as we seem to be pretty fertile I dont want to risk it forever. Im just worried I might want another baby in a few years time so might wait and see how I feel.

Mine is getting it done in a few years (after we've had 1 more). He saw what his Mum went through when she had her tubes done and really resented his father for not having it done when its such minor procedure for men. I think he sees it as kind of a manly thing to do- y'know, kind of going through the pain so I don't have to. Fair enough I say! Hehe
Wouldn't have a clue about how much they cost etc but I know a few people who have had them and no one has ever mentioned the losing sensation thing.

Dh got his done at Family planning. Lots of urologists do really cheap mothers day specials though. SO if anyone wants to get in quick you might be able to get it done cheaply.
Dh didnt have aproblem getting it done. Alothough now he says if he had the choice again he probably wouldnt get it done. He sometimes gets pain after BD, which he never got before. Thats his only gripe about it really.

Hi ladies!
Well Spencer is flat out refusing to get it done. And he doesn't want me to get my tubes tied either because he said if I don't change my mind then he might change his mind....if that makes sense? He doesn't want us to regret it in 10 years time.
Fair enough I suppose......but I'm pretty positive I don't want anymore & since I'm the one who has to do all the hard work I think I should get the majority vote!
And my feet have swelled up & my lower back is aching so I've been praying this baby comes on time or is early! Lots of tears & generally feeling depressed & tired, so not a very happy household here at the moment
