Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to introduce myself as I've just joined and am also due in February with my 1st baby and am really excited about it, and look forward to sharing my journey with you all along the way!
I've got my first midwife appt tomorrow, I'll be 10 weeks 4 days, and have my first nuchal scan 2 weeks Tuesday.

I'm a kiwi living in London at the moment, but am coming home to have the baby, so we'll be back in December. Haven't told anyone yet, but look forward to breaking the news once I've had the nuchal scan and know everything's fine.

Thanks for the welcome!
We are moving to Tauranga when we come back, DH family comes from there and its such a lovely place.

We are going to be in the Pillans Point area.

It will be interesting to compare the ante natal care in the UK and NZ!

You dont know any good mid wives in Tga by chance do you? It is going to be tricky getting one when based over here I think.

Hi Two Shoes

I'm from Tga, and I could probably recommend a couple of MW's, my one and ones my friends had.  My MW was Kay Jones - a wonderful lady!  Also Robin Cronin is fabulous - both are feeding lactations (is that the right word?!?) so helpful when it comes to b/feeding problems.  Although I'm not sure if they "service" the Pillians Point area, but I guess you can only ask, and they could put you on to the right people otherwise.

My babies:

R (9),G (7), J (5)

I used Leigh O'Neill, who is fabulous!
Pat Shanks delivered Hannah, though, as Leigh was away. But she was fantastic. They're both based in Bethlehem at the Tauranga Midwifery Centre (I'm in Brookfield), so I'm sure they'll do Pillans point

I am using Shelly Edwards and she is awesome. She is based at the Fraser Street clinic, I don't think it matters to them where you are as I know one of the girls in my coffee group has the same midwife and lives in Papamoa.

Good luck with everything Two Shoes and welcome to the club

Lisa, if it's the same as the one I went to, they've moved to Bethlehem. They're awesome there, huh?

Oh yes, Shelley Edwards is lovely!  She was my backup MW.  Yeah it probably doesn't matter too much where you live, as until you give birth, you go to their clinic for your appts anyway.

Nope the clinic I go to is at 559  Fraser St, they have moved down to Greerton end, I think they split and half went to this one and half went out to Bethlehem. This one is listed in yellow pages as Bay Midwifery Centre. I know Shelly has had home visits recently at Papamoa so I don't think it matters.

Thank you all so much MamaPickle, Italiah and LisaD for all your midwife recommendations, that's fantastic! I'm sure I'll be able to hopefully have one of those as my midwife.

I'll have to make some enquiries soon after I've had my scan and announced the news to family and friends. I was thinking I might need to get my mother-in-law involved in finding me a midwife, but that may not be necessary now, if I can arrange it from over here :-) I guess I won't be able to leave it too late though, as I'm sure they'll get booked up pretty early huh?

Gosh LisaD not long for you to go now aye? Do you know what you're having or keeping it a surprise? Good luck with the birth and keep us posted on how things go.

Yup, not long now, and am looking forward to it being over now. Very sore and achy hips last night on top of having to pee every 30 mins!!!

Have to wait a few more weeks to find out what flavour this one is, but we don't mind either way.

Good luck with your scan, its always cool to see the baby, I am supposed to have another one at 39 weeks if we get that far!

Hi there, I've had Natasha Rawiri for the past 2 years & this year I have Anne Attwood they also have a another lady call Juanita something, I dont know her last name. they are independant MW's. With this pregnancy I initially went with Bay Midwifery as Natasha was on holiday around my EDD but I went back to them as they are all familiar with me. You've got so much choice here but Im sure you'll find someone right for you.... Best of luck

Thanks Kelpa and Mumof72B for your m/w recommendations also, that's great! I'm sure I'll be able to secure someone out of all these, and will let you all know who I end up getting.

Gosh it's good to know there are quite a few of us in Tga, so yes when I'm back in Tga I will definitely let you all know, and as Kelpa suggests I would also be keen to meet up with other Mums for coffee who are interested.

Thanks bub, yes everything is going along fine for me at the moment, but obviously can't wait for my scan - a week on Tuesday, just to be sure things are ok. I've been really lucky in that haven't had any real morning sickness, just felt a little bit nauseous from time to time in which case I just make sure I eat something to keep my sugar levels up. I've generally been carrying along with day too day activities as per normal, although have needed to tone down my gym workouts as don't want to over exert and over heat, and so far have been able to keep up with my tennis twice a week.

I've read that Tga Hosp has a new maternity ward now? Does anyone know whether they have birthing pools there? Keen to hear about anyone's thoughts/experiences of water births.

All the best to bub and LisaD with your impending births.

Kelpa: hope baby Brennan is doing fine.. what a sweetie!

2 of the rooms at the new maternity unit have pools, I went on a tour with my midwife a couple of weeks ago and had also been to visit Kelpa a couple of times before Brennan was born. Its very nice, a lot nicer than the old unit and they are big on security in the new unit, the old one anyone could walk in.

Didn't have a waterbirth last time (had an emergency CS so am not allowed one this time) so can't help you there but lots of others have had them.
