Wrapping/Swaddling

Rohann's still being wrapped at almost 5 months, but I'm wondering if it's time to stop. She gets quite grumpy when you start to wrap her, her sleeps have gotton a bit shorter and I'm sure there was somrthing else but I can't for the life of me remember now.

So I thought I'd ask all you helpful ladies about the best way to wean them off a wrap, and when to know if they are ready not to be wrapped. Also is it something they need to learn to get used to?

With DS1 I went for not wrapping for day sleeps but still doing it for night sleeps for a while.

Just do it when you think he's ready. What I did was to wrap looser and looser until they ended up going to sleep with the wrap but waking up unwrapped. Then I just stopped wrapping altogether. If they are unsettled when unwrapped, then it was too early.

I my pekemoe.

We went cold turkey at about 7 months, Spencer was already in a sleeping bag though (I use to wrap him inside it), so he still had that as a comfort and only a week or so later we moved him to the pekemoe cos he outgrew the other sleeping bag. Now he is in the pekemoe at night and nothing during the day.

Last night we wrapped Rohann with 1 arm out (which had a mitten on it as she will still scratch herself at times), and she slept from all night as usual! I was eally suprised, I was sure I would have to re-wrap her during the night. It will be interesting to see how she goes during the day as this is when I've noticed her sleeps get shorter.

Dawn, I've often wondered the same that she was getting grumpy when wrapping due to not wanting to go to bed rather than the wrapping.

Gina, I've been very interested in the Peke Moe, but I guess my 1 concern would be trading 1 habit for another IYKWIM and having to eventually wean her from the Peke Moe.

In regards to it becoming a habit. yes I can understand your worries.. I suppose some babies do really LOVE their Peke Moe :) however I think most babies transition fine. and then many parents continue to use it just as it's a great alternative to blankets... not difficult to take when going away, just as though you were taking the babies blanket anyway?... I still use one for Tyde at night times as he's all over his cot walking around, wriggling around and I know he's covered all night, so it's peace of mind to me to know he's covered! :)
She may just be one of those babies that transition really easy ! AWESOME !!!! :)

Up until a week ago, we wrapped Phoenix with both arms in. This week he has been moved to his own bedroom and I have been putting him to bed with his favourite teddy and letting him fall asleep without the wrap. I got a few grizzles, but he has his dummy... usually after 10 mins I go in and check on him and he is usually well asleep... dummy out next to him, bear sprawled at his feet. So I just tuck him in then.

Working for us so far. I was worried about not using the swaddle, as he was using it as his sleep aid.

Josh use to kick his way out so we stopped wrapping ages ago no weaning just me throwing a tantie over him kickin so put him in bed without it at around 3 months i think never wrapped again after that until last night when he wouldnt go to sleep and i was totally exhausted and thought if he couldnt play he would calm down and sleep which worked thank god so now i will use it in desperate 'IM NOT GOING TO SLEEP' moments i think

I found Sienna would fight tooth and nail to get out of her wrap, but if I wrapped her with one arm out she wouldn't fight it, and she couldn't get out of it.

Yeah I stopped wrapping when I got the safety sleep because I didnt know how to do it and felt bad wrapping her arms in the safety sleep.
It didnt seem to make any difference to her when I stopped. I dont think I was the best at wrapping cos unless she was asleep shed just wriggle out of it anyway.
I do worry about her getting cold though as she seems to pull the blankets down and gets very cold hands.
