Astin has had diarhia (SP??) since last thursday!!! I have taken him to the doctors twice and they have taken samples for testing (have not heard back yet) but both doctors seem to think that there is nothing wrong now (other than his 39 temp he had!!)!!

He still has the runs and has lost sooooooooooooo much weight!!!! 3kgs to be exact! he has gone from a plump little 13 kgs to 10kgs!! he looks so skinny and gaunt! it makes me well up with tears looking at him!!!

Will he put this weight back on or will he stay like this now?? and when will the runs end??

ohh dear, sounds like Rotovirus too me. Nasty bug that one...When I had it, it last about 8 days. Don't worry about food, just give him lots of water... OR go back to the doctors and ask for the results so you know what you are dealing with.

Once he gets his appetite back, just slowly introduce food back and I'm sure he'll gain it back.

Does sound like Rotavirus Gremlins had a week in Starship with it last year. Pretty much all you can do is keep up the fluids. He will put the weight back on tho, Mercedes got down to 7kg when she had it but she bounced back pretty quickly.

Yeah it sounds like Rotovirus or Campylobacter to me.
Poo samples take 3 working days to come back and often they don't contact you if they don't show anything up.
I'd go back to the doc to follow up if I were you.
Hope he's better really quick.

I agree that it sounds like Rotavirus. Alex had it last year and it did take about 8 days to clear up, and he lost a fair bit of weight. He regained it quite quickly afterwards though. All you can do is keep hassling the docs for results and keep his fluids up as best you can. Good luck

The doc prescribed 2 bottles of pedylites (i think thats what theyr called without having to go to the fridge to check!) but EVERYTIME! i give him some he throws it up! (he hasnt been throwing up apart from these times). Iv gone through 2 packs of sposies in 4 days!.

Hes seeming alot happier but man it just breaks my heart seeing how skinny he is he doesnt even look like himself anymore!

I also have an assignment due in a week so im trying to get this done while dealing with him

Im glad to hear that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and they do put the weight back on....I will ring the doc first thing in the morning (the sample was taken on monday at 9am)

Good luck with the results this morning Amber. It sucks when they are sick and there's nothing we can do

well i went to the docs to get his results first thing this morning (their phone lines were down so couldnt ring! ) and they are still waiting for a culture to come back as they take longer to do but so far it is negative for rotovirus!?? so at present they are putting it down to an alergic reaction to something and it has cause an irratable bowel
