QuoteReplyTopic: paranoid question about movements Posted: 21 July 2008 at 9:00am
I have been getting good kicks and movements from bubs since about 16 weeks, to the point on friday night DH and I could feel it from the outside then yesterday morning DH and i had special cuddles and yesterday and now today i baby has done the odd kick but no where near as much as it has been doing and i can only just feel them, what could that be about? can the placenta move and shield the kicks or what? or am i just being too paranoid? eeeeek help ease my mind lol
I was feeling quite a few movements around 17/18 weeks and then none for awhile as well, and when I had my 20 week scan they told me that my placenta was at the front so I wouldn't feel a lot for awhile. It seemed weird that it might have 'moved' but I guess that's what happened! Am feeling loads again in the last couple of weeks, call your MW if you are worried though. And failing that it shouldn't be too long til your next scan to see whether it is the placenta position meaning you feel less at the moment.
Kaitlyn would have moments where she is constantly kicking me or only feel the slightest kick. As you get get further on you will notice a pattern when they are awake or asleep.
at that stage it could also be that your uterus has grown and bubs has a bit more room where as before he/she was squashed. I was warned when I first start to feel them that I might for a while and then not for a while. A bit later on its all squashed and you tend to feel them more often.
Or maybe bubs is in there sitting really still saying "I did not jsut witness my mum and dad doing THAT did I?" he he he

thanks guys you have helped to ease my mind! its so helpful having you lot here otherwise i think i would be one of my midwifes least favourite expectant mothers LOL
your placenta wont move but bubs will. if you ever feel concerned tho dont feel that you shouldnt contact your mw for some monitoring. i remember ringing mine in tears at about 18 weeks with my first cause i hadnt felt him move...
I felt movements on and off from about 17/18 weeks. It wasn't until I got to about 24 weeks that my mw asked me to monitor the movements and make sure I was having at least 10 per day between getting up and bedtime. It was around that time that she got into more of a routine too and I knew when to expect her to be 'awake' Try having a large glass of really cold water, should get them moving (although you mightn't feel it)

i agree...that's what they are there for i rung mine in tears too at 20wks because i hadn't felt charli move yet....i felt jack from 16wks so was starting to panic!
thanks guys i think that bubs has moved and is kicking the other way because i do feel it but just gently like it was at the beginning and not as often but it does give me the occasional random kick just to let me know its alright i've got a MW appointment on thursday so will mention to her anyway and a scan on monday so will be able to see the little minx in there hehe
Hi Noodle
I just had my mw appointment and have an anterior placenta so my movements are very mild and infrequent. My mw seemed to still want me to count at least 10 movements per day and said that if I was worried I could either a) have a drink of ice water or b) ring them and they can do a quick listen to the heartbeat.
She also mentioned that as I get bigger the placenta may move again (damn thing!) but that with an anterior placenta to expect kicks and movements to be less noticeable than my first (normal placed placenta).
I definitely suggest discussing with your mw - but you are likely to find everything is ok for you and bubs.
