Also what foods can I eat to make my milk supply better?

I am eating like a pig, and as soon as I start feeding I want food and drink! Its crazy how much Im eating! lol so I want to make sure I eat the right foods, cos at the moment Im craving junk food!

Bananas are great for breastfeeding.

As for what to stay away from you will work it out if Caden doesn't like it.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I have heard chocolate affects some b/f babies.....but luckily I haven't had to avoid any foods while feeding Ella. It's probably just a matter of trial and error.

Amazing how much you eat, eh?
I remember sitting down to dinner with my Dad and eating twice as much as him AND a piece of cake for dessert

I agree with Becks..
Bananas are great. Caden will soon tell you what agrees and what doesn't.
I couldn't have anything carbonated as it gave Hannah horrendous wind.
Chocolate bunged her up and junk food (especially Cheezels - I'd assume it was the evil additives and colouring) made her irritable.

But once she hit 12 weeks I could eat anything again.
But spicey food didn't seem to interfere with her..

My rule of thumb was; If it makes ME gassy and bloated, avoid it until she can burp on her own

My MW suggested avoiding 'real' orange juice, and excessive chocolate - oh and cabbage and carbonated drinks. Once Blair was older I reintroduced some these to my diet - not the excessive chocolate just some. Like the others have suggested, if you notice a difference in bubs, stay away for a bit

Milk supply foods, I found the fudge really good, I bumped the recipe ages ago, will see if I can find it again

Things that didn't agree with Harry:
curry
onion
chocolate
oranges/oj
cabbage

That's all I can think of at the mo. But my goodness I had butter chicken one night thinking it would be ok cos it wasn't spicy.. I had such an upset bubba the next day! I felt so bad. And oj made him have the worst ever rash on his face.

Just make sure you drink lots and have lots of protein. There is a thread I will bump up for you about food to eat to increase the milk supply, it's called "breast milk" I think.

I find a great snack is yoghurt with a banana cut up in it - filling, yummy, and good energy.

I was pretty lucky - the only thing I had to avoid was chinese meals. They affected DD something shocking!

Bananas and complan work very well. I also lived on nuts and ate heaps of yoghurt and I had a fantastic supply of fatty milk!

I didn't avoid any food at all and Lauren was fine, although now she is fully allergic to apples and her exzema flared up majorly when I ate apples, so in the last few months of b/f I had to give up my favourite fruit!

it is fatty enough, I promise.

Just make sure you are eating a good meal, lots of bananas and nuts (almonds) are great for milk supply. Make sure he is getting all of one side before you offer him the other side, that way he is getting the nice rich fatty hind milk.

Drink lots of water and take a snack and drink with you when you are feeding if you can.

Oh yeah and you don't need to change your diet, but you might wnat to avoid orange juice, pineapple juice, chocolate and garlic. Brassica family can make windy babies as well (brocc, cabbage, leeks, onion, cauli)

Almonds are great. Comlan can be a good supplement too and you can get a lactose free one if you need to.

I was gonna say almonds. Nuts in general for the protein but you should avoid nuts if there is any history of allergies.

Lots and lots and lots of water!

How's the feeding going?

I got told by plunket to avoid tomatoedishes, broccoli, cauliflour, kidney beans, bok choi, onions/leeks, cabbage and soft drinks for the first 10 weeks. After that you can reintroduce these foods in moderation.

Here is a recipe i use and it really boosts my milk supply. Its the rolled oats and nuts that do the boosting! and they tast so yummy

Breastfeeding biscuits
1/2 c butter
1/2 c white sugar
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 egg

cream all the above together

Then add
1 c flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 1/4 c rolled oats.
1/2 c chocolate chips
3/4 c chopped nuts (mixed nuts taste the best)
2TBSP coconut
1/4 cup rasins or dride fruit.

and mix. You should end up with a biscuit dough that can be rolled into small balls - if too sticky, add more flour or coconut or rolled oats

Bake for 10-12 minutes at 180 degrees. Makes about 30 cookies. Recipe can be halved or doubled easily.

those biscuits sound yummy!!

Just like everyone else said avoid onions, spring onions and i avoided caffine( fizzy drinks, tea, coffee, chocolate) that's because i did during preganacy .

My naturolpath said to drink hepas of water and eat protein at every meal so eggs, fish, chicken, meat and beans and lentils.

I tried to eat an egg every day and chesse for protein.

Your milk is fatty enough so don't even think about it!

I ate heaps and you need to, to boost milk supply. Snacking on dried fruit, nuts and seeds ( pumpkin, sunflower) is great too.

My MW said that babies tend to get used to what you are eating, after all there are BF babies all around the world whose Mother's live on curries etc. But she did say that some babies when they are younger can get windy when you eat certain foods, and mentioned in particular things like cabbage and that, as well as chocolate and orange juice.

One of my friends that is BF has tried heaps of different things, and has found that her baby super-power-chucks when she eats anything that has dairy in it, as well as paprika *random* and something else but I can't remember. So I guess it's different for all babies!!

Oh and as everyone else said, eat lots of protein (yoghurt/banana/milk/cheese/eggs/nuts/lentils etc). and drink heaps of water to keep your milk supply up.
