During lunch I went for my day 3 BT. The lady who was taking my blood told me to rather have my cycles monitored at the fertility clinic next door. Saying, doctors are not specialists in that area and it will be better to deal with people who were specialist and who deal with it on a day to day basis. I then popped into the fertility clinic and told them my story. I was pleased that they did not turn me away which I was almost convinced would happen. They asked me to make an appointment and gave me a form to fill in. Is anybody on the forum a patient of a fertility centre? What do they do? And is it worth while? We have been trying for 5 months and have just found out that I am not oving.
I don't know anything about fertility centres. But the lady taking your blood was right. They are specialist in the centres. But I think a lot of people don't go to them because of the cost. Did they give you any idea of the costs? I wouldn't have expected them to turn you away either - esp as its a paying service.

Oh....there are quite a few ladies on OB who have been through a specialist so I'm sure someone will be along soon who can help :)

If you pop over to the coping with Infertility message board you will find alot of people who are patients of a fertility center.
I am also in CHCH and my GP gave me a referral to the fertility clinic but they replied to him to get CD3 and CD21 bloods done before doing anything else. However, I also have a referreal to a gynaecologist who thinks I have endo so won't be going back to the fertility people until after I have had my op for that. All my bloods were normal and DH had a normal SA so my gyno thinks the surgery should definitly help.

Hiya - I am a patient of Wellington Fertility Associates. I was referred by my GP but I also know they take self-referrals and operate on both the public waiting lists and private (where user pays). I'm 31 and DH is 38 and have been TTC for 19mths now - tests were started at about the 10mth trying stage.
Before I was referred my GP ordered CD3 and CD21 bloods to check the basics, as well as an ultra-sound scan of my lower pelvis and a semen analysis (SA) for my DH. This is usually the best way around to do it as it means the initial testing is free or at least at very low cost, whereas if you go straight to the Fertility Specialists they'll charge you for these... in the end I had another US scan while at first appointment (part of that apptment cost) and hubby had to do a second SA ($100) at this step as they also test for sperm antibodies which general med-labs don't do as this is more 'technical'.
Hope some of this made sense - guess what I'm saying is to get as much of the basic initial tests done through GP to save money - you may need further specialist ordered tests if things are at all questionable but you may not either.
Oh yeah ... as Angie said the Fertility clinics will charge for the intial tests. If you look on the Christchurch Fertility centers website they list basic costs - $90 for a SA or ultrasound. Like Angie my GP ordered a SA for my husband and CD3 and CD21 bloods for me and it was free. I also had an ultrasound last year for intermenstural bleeding which I chose to have at Southern Cross but ebcause it wasn't fertility related it was covered by health insurance. I would imagine that if you are not Oing your GP would have given you a referral to the fertility clinic after this round of bloods anyway.

Check out the info supplied by Fertility Associates here I know they're only in the North Island but might be the same or really similar to what's needed by Christchurch clinic.
ETA: ooops just realised this is not quite answering your question... but I'm sure the Christchurch fertility clinic website is a mine full of useful info, check this out.
I think that I will wait to see the outcome of the BT and discuss it with my dr. I have just started taking Vitex and really hope it will sort out my problem. A fertility specialist is really the last resort.
The vitex certainly helped me to O earlier - but I was already Oing, just late - so hope it works for you
I would guess that if you are not Oing (has your doctor worked that out based on previous BTs?) that they would test your DH to make sure his swimmers are ok and then maybe prescribe you Clomid or something to make you O.
