Topic: IVF baby Posted: 23 June 2008 at 10:54am |
Hi there
I'm a newbee to Ohbaby and was just wondering if there are any others out there who have conceived recently with IVF? I got pregnant off our first cycle and am 5 weeks tomorrow - due late Feb 09. We are thrilled to be becoming parents at long last from over a 4 year journey. Would love to connect!

Yep there are a few out there that are IVF mum's. Ginger has just recently done IVF and is pregnant.

Thanks - congratulations to you too! the pessaries sure are although in some way grateful to have the special assistance! How long do you have to insert them for? Did you take it really easy in the first weeks after you found out? I'm so excited but also finding it hard knowing so early!

I'm in my last few days of them - the clinic told me I needed to take them until 9.5-10 weeks, but I figured I may as well use the packet up
I took it veeeery easy, and still am - after IVF I felt like I'd been splattered against a wall, and now with the pregnancy, I feel like I've been scraped off and splattered again! I think it's really important to remember that your body has been through a lot to get to this point, and it takes a while for things to settle down.

Thanks ginger - I can so identify with you - I feel totally smashed and have little engery for anything. I am planning on having lots of couch time to get through the next few weeks. Just also wanting some advice as to getting a midwife or whether after all we have been through I should try and get a gp/specialist but i'm not sure if thats possible? What have you decided to do?

Welcome ames, and congrats
Pregnancy is hard enough, without having to deal with all the extra "stuff" IVF entails, I'm sure!
You've come to the right place!
Whereabouts in TGA are you? I can recommend using the ladies from the Bay Midwifery Centre in Bethlehem (they've just moved there from Fraser St) They're fantastic
**edited for spelling. ugh. Coffee....

We've gone with a private specialist. I had a couple of bleeds, and the clinic recommended we have a doctor involved, so we went in that direction with no hesitation ... once we picked ourselves up off the floor when we found out what the cost would be
The real tempter is that you get more scans with a specialist - you get one every time you see him/her
We found when we had our scares that there was no support to be found anywhere and after that we decided we wanted someone available 24/7 and to be able to deal with that person right through, and for that person to be absolutely accountable for No. 9. It's a bit of pressure on our budget, but well worth it. It was worth it in the first visit!

Our baby was conceived via ai with donor sperm. Emotionally for the other partner this can be very difficult - but i think IVF is still way more difficult emotionally!
I fell pregnant second time! That was great! It is a horrible feeling when you do a preggy test and its negative!
We are going to be starting to try again early-mid next year...

Welcome Ames and congratulations! I have a 10 month old IVF miracle Daughter. With regards to the specialist vs midwife - I chose to go with a private obstetrician. All the way through my pregnancy I questioned whether I should have, as I had a picture perfect pregnancy, so never really needed any extra care from my specialist. However, at the end of my pregnancy my baby was breech, and I had to have an elective c-section. I was SO glad that I had my obstetrician to do this rather than going public. I would go with a private obstetrician again without hesitation.
