    Posted: 20 June 2008 at 9:20pm
As you know if Master Caden is not here by Tuesday I am being induced tuesday night!
The specalist did explain to me what would happen etc like I have to have an asessent when I get there and stuff...but
I was just wondering if those of you who have been through being induced could tell me what they did and your experience with it etc.

I guess Im just a bit worried about it making labour more painful or longer or really fast and hard etc

there is no point in worrying... the outcomes from induction are just as varied and unpredictable as going naturally. All three of my inductions have been started exactly the same way and none had the same conslusions.

a lot depends on how ready your body and baby is beforehand.

the first step after monitoring is to give the gel then they monitor you again then leave you for a couple of hours. what you would be best to do at that stage is to walk as much as possible cause that will help bring on the contractions. what happens next will depend on if your body starts contracting on its own and or if your waters break.

You might want to look up bishops score on google too as this is what is used to determine how well induction will take. (the bishop score takes into consideration how soft your crevix, if dilated and by how much, that kind of stuff...and the mw or specialists will do it when they examine you before inserting the gel.)

good luck and try not to worry too much....

Ahhhh yep yep I remember him saying something about a bishops score. He said they will check me when I get there and if Im dilating on my own they may just pop my waters, if Im not he said they will put the gel on, and then again if I need it. Thats good to know with the walking round and stuff, I'll do that if I get the gel.

Thanks Deb

Dont be scared about getting induced. I made that mistake and my stress etc made me not progress (thats what the doc reckoned) so I ended up with the c section.

The biggest thing that I didnt like was the waiting. I went in at 8am, got the prostiglandin gel inserted, then was on the CTG monitor for 20 mins (which was alright cept for the needing to pee) then 6 hours waiting til they did an internal to see how I was going. Then it was another shot of gel, an hour later I got my waters broken. I'm sure because you've been having a lot of contractions you wont have to wait as long (hopefully!)

Overall it wasnt the most pleasant of experiences - but the end result was great of course.
Make sure you ask LOTS of questions about what they're doing and why, so you're as well informed as you can be!

Oh and try to wear a nightie or a nightshirt or something other than PJ's - its most inconvenient having to take them off and put them back on all the time!

actually the gowns arent too bad. They're domed on the shoulders so you can breastfeed straight away, and domed at the back so your arse isnt hanging out! And they're quite warm too :P better to mess their stuff up than yours cuz breaking waters are REAL messy - it doesnt all come out at once and you leak buckets everywhere lol

Dont worry about it...like others said everyone is different.

Both of mine were induced as first time I couldnt deal with pain I was having which wasnt even contractions and with Blake my waters broke but nothing else happened.

I had epidural with Paige as they recommended it because of the "heightened" pain that being induced can bring ...With Blake..I had gas and was all over and done with from wo to go in 4 hours..with only two of them being ...not so nice!
I had Drip with both of them as Gel did not work so was not able to walk around at all..which this time I REALLY want to do but who knows!!!

From what I have heard/learnt if having the gel and your body does everything else on its own..its very natural and like a normal labour...with the DRIP...it is controlled by the M/W and doctors and that is when things can go bit "painful"......as they can turn it up as in my case and I hit the roof!

Its is all over and done with rather fast either way if you can do it on gas too!
