OK I had heard about this, but really had no idea what it was.

Now I kind of do... I have just had the results from my 2nd HCG test. The nurse told me it was an ok result (I still have another one to do in 2 days time).

All she said was that on June 3rd, the reading was 13173
Then today (2 days later) the reading is 17947.

She said that even though it hasn't doubled, it is rising. So I am assuming that is a good sign.

Oh and I checked an HCG calculator online. It calculated that my HCG levels are doubling every 4.5 days or 107.6 hours.

It's not super fast, so is that good/normal??

Sounds fine to me, they only double every 48 hours till they reach a certain level then the doubling time drops to 72 hours.

Had the scan on Friday.... the sonographer couldn't yet see a heartbeat again, but the pregnancy and yolk sacs had grown a little. She measured a CRL of around 3mm. I have to go back for yet another next Friday.

However, my GP told me that with such slow-rising HCG levels, with being 40 years old and with no sign of a heartbeat yet, she doesn't hold much hope of the pregnancy continuing for much longer.

I am devastated.

And then on Friday and Saturday my boobs seemed to stop hurting and being so full.... yet now, they are a bit tender and sore, and seem a little more full again.

God, this is such an emotional and confusing time.
If I am going to miscarry, I just want it to be over with.

My thoughts are with you Beachy. You always imagine that pregnancy will be a really special time ... but in reality, it's often terrifying and heartbreaking and just plain awful (my kiddly is being a complete toad as well).

I really, really hope that things are ok - I had a scan at 8 weeks and they used their highest-powered scanner to get a good look at baby. So, hopefully, things will be ok and they're just moving a bit slower. Have your dates been confirmed? Perhaps you aren't as far along as you think and that is why?

Again, I hope everything is ok.

Hi Beachy

Hold on to the hope and wait till Friday.

Its not easy especially being 40 - I have just been through it and am now 41. It is more so devasting because our clock really is ticking.

Just had another lot of HCG results from Saturday's test: 42,519.
So again, a good rise from the week before, but according to the HCG calculator, it's only doubling every 6 days.

I truly don't know if that is good or bad .

Arent they meant to stop doubling once they get high?  I dont know much about it as I only had 2 readings at 200 and 800 (I'm just not in your league)

Fingers crossed....hope the week goes quickly for you.

And yes, it has been suggested that my dates could be a week or so out.

According to my LMP I am around 7wks 6days pregnant... but according to the ultrasound, I am probably only around 6wks 3days-ish.

Maybe I ovulated late???

Thanks to everyone for your kind thoughts and words, by the way.

It truly means a lot to me at this very trying and emotionally exhausting time.

Thank you

Its VERY possible that you ovulated late.  With Tom's pregnacny I was put back 10 days and I was adamant that I knew when I had ovulated......but MW says I may have even ovulated twice....so strange things can happen.  And Tom was born a week late off the new dates and definately didnt seem over done!

And at 6w3d ish, a heartbeat very likely wouldn't show. When I went for my 8 week scan, the nurse had mis-calculated my date (my scan was brought forward by a couple of days because I started to bleed, and she thought I wasn't due for my 8 week scan for another 1.5 weeks) and said that we likely wouldn't see a heartbeat anyway.

Here's crossing everything that you're just very crap at maths!!

And I'm with nzpiper - they do stop doubling once you get so far along.

According to the Diagnostic Medlab chart, for 7w4d ish you are in the 50th percentile, and for 6 weeks you're about the 75th. That's not bad! Maybe your toad took it's time to implant!
