Topic: Real Nappies/ Prefold Users Posted: 13 June 2008 at 3:36pm |
Hi there.
We have been using the 'real nappies' brand on my son from the age of 6 months with great success. we've got baby number 2 on the way and i'm keen to try bummis wraps and prefolds on a newborn. i think i've read in these forums that prefolds are good at containing breastfed poo?? i hope so as i've already started my collection :-)
Also: would you recommend using biodegradable liners with a newborn or does the poo just run straight off? is a prefold and wrap enough or will i need to buy some 'whisper pants' to go over the top for better leakage prevention?
Many thanks for your help.......

Most find liners useless with a nb, some still like to use them. It will probably soak through, though still help. You could always try washable liners. Whisper pants are instead of a wrap, not as well as generally, so either.
So long as you're using a snappy alot find them good for containment - if you're just pad folding them, it'll go all over the cover.

how have you been using the prefolds on your son? they have snappis on the accessories page.
the snappi is the alternative to pins. i prefer to snappi my prefolds on as never had much luck with pad folding them and dont worry about liners either.

Snappi replaces pins Sometimes I forget some people still use pins! Forgive me if you do, they should work just as well.
They are about $5 each, but you should only need 1 or 2 for a full set of prefolds.

I used real nappy prefolds and a mixture of RN wraps, and bummis wraps on Sophie. I never snappied, just folded the prefold in quarters, and placed in the wrap. It was mostly fine - had the occassional explosion! I never used liners on her, and never used any other covers over the top. I used the prefolds until she was 13 weeks, and then switched to pockets, as I was finding she was waking as she felt wet.
