Topic: how common is it???? Posted: 10 June 2008 at 3:20pm |
ok so ive been told im having a girl this time to my excitement as i already have 2 very handsome boys but somehow dont think id handle another hehe just my excuse for wanting a princess
how common is it that radiographers get the gender wrong??
do you know of someone or some people who this has happened to or had experience in this yourself??
one of my good friends got told she was having a boy (1st child) and ended up having a girl...
i just cant stop thinking about this i think because im still in shock at getting my princess this time round.
thaks in advance

I believe that the odds on getting a girl identity wrong are higher than a boy. Eg. if they say you're getting a boy - odds are that you are getting a boy. But with girls - if they say you're getting a girl there's more chance that they can be wrong.
I would suggest another scan further along in your pregnancy for a second 'look' if you really want to be sure.
Good luck!

I know what you mean about the pink things aussiegirl! My mother went into overdrive with the knitting and buying once we were told it's a girl and now my dad is constantly teasing her that it's going to turn out to be a boy
Interestingly my OB told me that they are more likely to get the gender wrong saying it's a boy and it turns out to be a girl. Doesn't make much sense to me

It depends how good a look they get tho, there was absolutely no mistaking the girly bits on this wee bub, but with the gremlins when I first found out the gender at 17 weeks they could pick Mercedes for certain but couldn't say 100% for Sienna coz of the angle she was on.

if i could get another scan i would totally for my own piece of mind nothing wrong with pregnancy to warrant another scan though( very happy about that too,but would have scans everyday if i could) , its strange for me as i never had these doubts with either of the boys and i found out with both of them thats why i think its because i so wanted a girl and now im getting her its all gone to my head IYKWIM...

When i was 18 weeks the scan person said it was "more likely a girl" ( i thought, ok, as long as thats more likely a HUMAN girl ) then at a scan i had at 30 weeks she showed me Caitlyn's "hamburger" .
Most cases i've heard of when they say its a girl, its a girl .
When i was a bethany there was a girl who was told she was having a girl and another who was told she was having a boy and they gave birth a day apart-the girl who was expecting a boy got a girl and vice versa........so they swapped clothes haha.

The people I bought my pram off had been told they were having a girl and then a boy popped out and they had to redecorate the babies room and buy some different coloured clothes.

I'm worried too that our girl will be a boy! We were told 80% chance of a girl, but we did see the 'hamburger' on the scan, and having seen some friends' scans of their boys (where it was VERY obvious it was a boy), I'm pretty convinced she's a girl! Our radiographer tried to "shake-out" any dangly bits to no avail, and both DH and I had strong girl vibes before the scan, so here's hoping!
We would obviously still love to have a boy, but all the pink stuff would be a bit obselete!

my mum keeps teasing me what if it turns out a girl. It'll be quite annoying if he is a she.

A friend of mines sister was told her little girl was a little boy- the sonographer was so certain, was a hell of a shock for them when she popped out!

Well how dumb is this ? when Caitlyn was born i had been told i was having a girl , then i looked down and saw the umbilical cord and in my tired post labour state, i thought it was a penis (a pretty good sized one tho! ) and i just thought "oh dear....i hope you dont mind wearing pink for a few weeks "
then my friend looked at me and said "kel.....it IS a girl "
Oh the relief! haha

Haha caitlynsmygirl
We were told at the 20 week scan that they couldn't tell, but if they HAD to guess, they would say girl. I had about 6 more scans after that, a couple they wouldn't say, but in the others it was obvious and the sonographer told me she was 100% sure that it was a girl... and it was

We were told that the guy was 100% certain this time, last time was 80%.
Am still not totally sure though lol
The technician told me I can call him if he's wrong, he even bet his job on the fact that we were having a girl, so I hope he's right
