I thought this may be of interest to some people:

The Vegetable That Could Be Preventing Your Pregnancy

There are many foods women trying to conceive are told to avoid, and I'm sure you're familiar with them all. I'm also sure you're avoiding them where you can, so keep up the good work!

The problems are caused, however, by the fertility-damaging foods that doctors, books, and guides fail to mention to you. Most of the time this is through neglect. After all, the majority of couples are lucky enough to have such high fertility levels that it doesn't matter if they make a few mistakes.

For infertile couples, though, these small mistakes can be the difference between getting pregnant and not.

Right at the top of the list of foods to avoid is peas. Yep, the humble little pea. It's hard to believe they can cause so much damage to your chances of pregnancy, isn't it?

Well, it was back in the 1940s that scientists noticed that Tibet was home to one of the most stable populations on Earth. Researchers began to theorize, based on the popularity of the pea as a food source there, that this vegetable had anti-fertility properties.

It wasn't long before there was scientific fact to back up the theories. Researchers found a natural chemical in peas, m-xylohydroquione, that appeared to have contraceptive effects. Further studies found that the pregnancy rate dropped by 60 percent in women taking the natural chemical in capsule form. The sperm count in men who took the capsule was found to plummet by 50 percent.

More recently, studies carried out in the United States confirmed the anti-fertility effects of pea oil.

With such fertility-damaging properties, peas should be avoided by all couples attempting to get pregnant. Ideally, stop all pea consumption 3 months before trying to conceive. This 3 month layoff is particularly important for the male partner, since his sperm takes 72 days to fully mature. Anything he consumes in those 72 days will affect his current fertility levels.

If couples currently trying to conceive have been eating peas, they should be cut from the diet immediately. As each week passes without peas being consumed, fertility levels will rise in both the male and female partner.

We never eat peas, not cos we dont like them but cos in a sense they are a useless vegetable, full of sugar!!!

But I will be passing that on to all pea lovers in future.

I love peas too, and they are actually very high in fibre and low in kjs so a great meal accompaniment.

Oh, wait a minute. I just checked out the site and interestingly I've seen an almost identical site recently (this one aimed at parents with toddlers) asking for $47 to download a book on toilet training tips. The site resemblences are uncanny. It's also interesting that the fertility site has used the same name as a reputable fertility site but they have dashes inbetween the words. I'd think twice before sending any money.

I googled to find a link between peas and infertility and found on http://www.womenfitness.net/infertility.htm it says "Foods rich in manganese (oats, wheat germ, rye bread and peas) promote the action of oestrogen, and vitamin B's (wholegrains such as brown rice, wheat germ, pulses oats and green vegetables), involved in oestrogen metabolism. Their deficiency can hamper pursuing pregnancy."

thats my years doing weight watchers.. i think the same thing about corn. when you are saving your points id rather an extra helping a free veg like carrots than a points waster like peas.

should have been a little more clear on what I meant be full of sugar. I do love peas.

I wonder if you have low progesterone if eating those would boost your estrogen making your imbalance even greater???? Anyone have any thoughts?

Dh is really not impressed with this idea. I told him last night, no more peas for him and he got his 2 year old sulky face on. Pea's and potatoes are my favorite vegetables, for years they were the only one's I'd eat, me sad

As I was reading I was thinking what a load of bollocks! I guess I shouldn't judge before reading deeper but it just doesn't ring true and then I read what Mrs Mojo wrote and it has me even more skeptical!!

As far as peas go in a nutirition sense... according to the info my dietitician gave me, they're all good - it's corn that I had to consider portion sizes, but then that's like everything else - two (or more) pools of thought on it all!

DON'T STOP EATING PEAS!! sorry for shouting

I think the website is a crock. They want your money.

Other sites say that a deficiency of manganese (a mineral found in peas) can cause infertility. See below.

The link that I'm getting isn't asking for any money!

I also stuffed up the last link, so here it is again:

Its cool you all have differing opinions - I just thought it made for interesting reading.
