Who has used a sling for bubs? Do you recommend them?

I am looking at this one here... anyone tried Peanut Shell?

I have a sling, sorry no idea what brand but not Peanut Shell, I didn't have it when Leah was little but got it when she was about 1, used it with her then and it was great. My SIL gave me a front pack but we never used it, found it a bit confusing to put on when by myself but the sling was great.

The one your looking at looks so cool, lucky you.

I have a Dulce and Zoet sling, but I'm about to stick it on TM as it's too large for me now.

It was great though

I *want* a Dulce and Zoet one, but then I saw some on TM called Jazslings for $30 so I ordered one of those to check it out. Will let you know how I get on with it. I'm also borrowing a Moby Wrap from one of the ladies on here to see how that goes as well as I am going to be reliant on a baby carrier of some sort so I can have both hands free to gremlin wrangle.

We had a sling and found it great with Jack when he was little. Bought it for about $30 on Trade Me. However once he got bigger and heavier I found that I got a really sore back and shoulder. If/when we have #2 I think I will use a wrap, found this website and think they look great - slings and wraps
We did have MIL make a larger sling for DH to use (aka his man bag) and he found it great but then he is a lot taller and stronger than me

I have been looking all over the web... I love the Moby Wraps, but I seriously think I will be too uncoordinated for one! I have never been able to do things behind my back (never could plait my own hair and still have trouble doing up my bra strap!!).

I just don't think I could manage it.

I did love the photos on the web of how to wear them. Expecially the ones with twins. CUTE!!

I think I will go with the Dolce & Zoet one. I just don't like the designs this year very much! The Peanut Shell ones look waaaay cooler.

PS - Thanks Stacey for the search tip. I often forget to search! There was lots of useful information in there.

We have a couple of D&Z slings, I found that they weren't so good for newborns because I didn't like the way the baby was lying in it - kind of scrunched up. Neither of my girls like them that young (well, still trying with DD2). I did find them awesome for when they are a bit older and you can do the hip carry - still use that one with DD1 at 20 months old.
I'd LOVE a moby wrap - they look so cool and comfortable.

I have a Dulce & Zoet sling and love it. Lilia is starting to get a little big for the new born carry, but is too young for any other carry yet. I'd recommend them

eta: Lilia always falls asleep in it, so she must find it comfy

I'm in the process of making a ring sling a the moment. one with a ring. it is all done apart for finding the rings. I don;t really want to have to import them from the states - even though they are the 'specialized' ones for ring slings.

any one got any ideas where I can get them from otherwise. I live in Tauranga.

Laurie, why don't you try making your own ring sling?

Link

When I made mine, I bought some sling rings off trademe, through someone called Starflower (she makes slings). I don't know if she does it anymore - but someone suggested I trying ringing (boat) sail makers - as they use really strong rings that you could use on a sling. Worth a try.

i haev a sling which is a starflower sling. It's a ring sling and i bought it at the parent and child show befor ei even got preggy. lol. i love it! i used right from word go and i love the fact you can have little baby in kangaroo hold (on your tummy/chest, i think some people call it the frog position) and i still use it for him now at 21mth. He now sits on the hip, and it means i'm not carrying his weight in my arm, and it is balanced over both shoulders. i personally don't like them lying so far down on my body as in the D&L one showed above, but that's my personal perference as i find it easier to have their weight closer to my body weight therefore easier to carry. The ring sling i use is usable right til 3yrs or something, which is great for us.

Lilfatty, thanks so much for posting that photo of you with Issy in the sling. I'd been struggling to get it to sit right with DD2 in it and after seeing that I suddenly clicked and got it sorted - much easier to do things this evening and she fell asleep in it for the first time! So stoked, now I don't have to wait until she's sitting to do the hip carry to use it.

Bless ... thats not me, but you are welcome.

I "stole" that from the Dulce and Zoet website, thats where I learnt how to put her in the sling (note .. loads of people carry them the other way around) if you go to the website, they have instructions on different ways to wear the baby

Here is a pic of DH "wearing" Issy in two different ways (I always do pic number one as I dont like the way her feet dangle out the other way - doesnt look v comfy to me)

woops! Well, thanks anyway - I needed to be prompted to start using the sling more before she got too old and not used to it!
Love the pics of your DH using the sling - mine won't go near it so we bought an ergo carrier for him to use instead. I prefer the first hold he's got Issy in as well.

and I did think that photo was quite different from the ones I'd seen of you before, but obviouslythe mummy brain didn't click over that it wasn't you - sorry!
