Topic: Temperature Dips Posted: 11 May 2008 at 10:55am |
I've only just started charting. I've seen women write about a dip and that they assume af will shortly follow. Can someone please tell me, on average, how soon before af would this dip occur and is it a one off drop or does it stay dropped.
I've been charting on ff, but mucked up my first 11 days due to reading the memory incorrectly on my thermo. But noticed quite a dip on day 13 anyway which is when I thought I O'd. So I'm guessing I'd still see a drop when/if af is due? I'm up to day 25 today and thinking I'm on a 27,28 day cycle. So if I'm not preg when would I see a drop?
Sorry for the long post...hope you understand what I mean :)
Thanks
Edited to add: does the dip before af drop as much as what the ovulation dip does?

Thanks BBM. I'm also wondering about something else about the charts. I've looked at others and there are lines on them seperating DPO etc. Mine doesn't have any lines and doesn't point out any ovulation point. Is this because my first week or so the temps were all same, due to error on my part. Or could it be that I'm on a trial VIP? Or do I have to chart mucous as well as temps?

Neferiti mine is the same, it doesnt show how many DPO I am. I think you only get that if you pay for VIP?!
I use my diary as well as FF to write my CD #, CM and temps just incase something happens or I enter something wrong into FF.

FF should indicate ovulation if you are on the free trial. Its only when you get the end of the free trial and you don't sign up that you are downgraded to the version that doesn't have all the extra bits.
Recording CM will make a big difference to how FF interprets your temps.

I wonder why our charts aren't showing that then.
Is this your first month with FF rianna08?

On the Basic version you will still get given lines to pinpoint ovulation...the vip version actually counts how many days past ovualation you are and shows that info on your chart...
FF will only give you lines if it has clear indicators that it has picked up ovulation...ie a sustained thermal shift, and EWCM, or a positive opk. I couldnt find your chart on the list, so I'm not sure whether it has given you lines at all yet? It may be thrown out also because of your missing temps earlier in your cycle?
I find that my temps gradually go down in the three days leading up to afs arrival, to bring them back down to pre-ovulation temp range...ie before ovulation my temps seem to range 36.3 - 36.6, then I ovulate and the go up to 36.8 - 37.1, and then just before af arrives they go down again, so I might get a 36.89 then a 36.8, then a 36.6, and then af will arrive, if that makes sense??

Nefertiti yep my first month. I think if I worked mine out correctly I should be 1DPO today but FF isnt showing that. Having said that, I started my entering in the data for my CM at CD1 but I only started the temps 2 days ago (had to find a good BBT thermo and I didnt want to wait for one to be delivered). So that may have something to do with mine.
I hope this works, here is my FF chart.

Ok so that link doesnt work but Ive figured it out. Here is mine.
Nefertiti in the FF menu go to Sharing on the left and click home page set up. Once you get to the bottom click save or create page (or something like that, I cant remember exactly). Then you can copy the link over. Hope that helps

Rianna - FF won't show DPO till you are 3dpo as you have to have three raised temps to confirm OV, so give it a couple of days and you should get your crosshairs (assuming you had a good rise, I haven't looked at your chart).
Nefertiti - I always used to get a pre-ov drop the day before/day of ovulation, and then it would go up and stay up until the day before AF started when it would drop again.

Hmmm, that's a tough one! Hard to say with the early temps being inconsistent.
I'd say you O'd on either CD 18 with a fallback rise on CD 19 (a fallback rise is a dip that occurs a day or two past O, I used to get them all the time) or on CD19 and the dip is an ov dip, but with the temps from CDs 20 and 21 missing it's really hard to say for sure, and I'd say that's why FF hasn't given you crosshairs. The open circles also indicate that your temps could be unreliable, taking them at different times maybe?
Anyway, if I had to guess, I'd say you are 6-7 dpo. How long are your cycles usually?

Actually, maybe even CD17, coz your temps went up from there? It really is hard to tell. And of course you might have o'd earlier, around CD13 like you originally said, but with the skewed data it's impossible to say.

Thanks guys for your input! My temp taking time had been erratic due to the school holidays. And then on day 20 when I missed it, it was because I woke up and saw it was 9.30am and my partner and kids were all still asleep lol, so I flew out of bed!
Maya - my cycles have been a bit silly since december. With spotting a day or two before actual af. But last couple have been abot 27-28 days.
Will remove those first temps and see what happens!

Ok...I just checked 'discard' in the days that I read temp incorrectly, and it gave me the lines. So FF says I am 8 DPO...but now that puts me very close to af, which I was expecting this wed/thu..
Edited to add new link: (do I have to update the link with every new change?)
