Are you having one? If you are what are you planning?

Have you had one? What did you do? Did you enjoy it?

At what stage of you pregnancy did/are you have/ing your baby shower?

With my first pregnancy I was around 31 weeks - reason why I had one at that stage of pregnancy was because my sister was going overseas for a few weeks and she wanted to organise it and it would have been a bit late if we had one when she got back. I won't be having one with this second pregnancy.

I'm having one at the end of June, I'll be 33 weeks by then.

I've got two friends organising it for me, we'll be playing games and having food and presents!

My SIL and Mum organised mine. I can't remember how far along I was but it was towards the end, maybe 34+ weeks. My brother and SIL got married mid-Feb and Jack was due 2 May so it was arranged for after their honeymoon. There was manily family and some friends. We did guess the birth date, weight and gender, guess my tummy measurement (there were some VERY unflattering guesses!!), fastest to fold an old style nappy and put it on the cabbage patch doll. We just had food and drink. It was a lovely afternoon.
I would like to arrange my own if/when #2 comes along but I am thinking something not so 'baby shower-ish' like High Tea at the Langham with no pressies.

I just had mine at 28 weeks, would have left it later but really wanted my aunty to come who is almost due so if I had it any later she couldnt come

I wrote the invite list, did the invite, chose the date etc and mum handled the RSVPS and put on the food and drink

I had about 30 people which was quite tiring and embarassing getting all those gifts but it was nice

I didnt play games as wasnt really my thing

No that is exactly how I feel Zebra which is why I started this thread just to see what other people did for theirs and whether or not it was a big thing here in NZ. I don't think I would have one if it weren't for my friends all asking for one to happen.

On an American forum I sometimes visit there is a lady who started a thread about her "Baby Shower from HELL". She is complaing about the gifts she recieved!! She is moaning cos she got heaps of onsies, and that she got a bottle of wine(GOSH she doesnt have to drink it now could be for afterwards!!). She goes on to say that she didnt need any of that stuff and nothing she wanted etc!!!

This is her post

I got 32 onsies. I didn't need ANY onsies. I also got one pack of burp cloths and one pack of receiving blankets. I didn't need either. I also got a bottle of wine. WTF? And that was it. NOTHING came from my registry. The shower lasted 20 minutes. There were NO decorations. It was so ghetto. The worst part is that all that crap came from Target. And they have a terrible return policy. I may be stuck with this crap. OH! And one of the "5-packs" of onsies had been opened, the top onsie removed and then crammed back in. In another "5-pack," the top onsie had been removed and not replaced. So it was now a 4-pack. I can't return that one at all.

This just hacks me right off!! There are some people who have hardly anything for their babies and this selfish women is moaning about the "crap" she did get!!!

I agree!! Jesh!

I had one around 36 weeks I think it was...maybe a little earlier...can't remember now. It was more an excuse for us girls to get together for afternoon tea, my friend organised a couple of games and got everyone to contribute towards a notebook of tips which has been a wonderful keepsake!

My cousin orgnaised nibbles which was really great! It was just a nice relaxed afternoon.

well she is an ungreatful women isnt she.

my sister organised my baby shower for me think i was bout 30 or so weeks jsut had picky food drinks and pressies was a good excuse to have a chat and giggle with my friends and family.

So what do you think? you should have a baby shower with all your pregnancies or just for the first i think just for the first but maybe different circumstances you could have more than 1.

This is my first - but my sister is organising mine for me. Gifts-wise she's buying us a tree to plant for bubs and told people if they want to contribute to buy a baby-store voucher to pin on the tree. I thought that was quite a cool idea, and not so embarressing!! She's just organising afternoon tea at a local cafe, so pretty low-key and in public so no shameful games lol!

No. I did feel a little cheeky with all the wonderful gifts we received but also enjoyed celebrating such a big event in my life. I just liked the fact that people came to help celebrate with me.
I would like to have a baby shower of sorts when (if we are lucky enough) we have more children. I would definately say no presents, but I would like to just get together with my friends and family to celebrate the birth of our baby.

ETA: Oh, and the American woman - that is so disgusting and ungrateful. If she is that type of person she is lucky anyone showed up at all, maybe she won't be seeing many of them again!

I had mine at 7 months - AN E (June 07 mum) organised it and it was great. Cake, fudge, other yummy food. I was spoiled rotten with gifts.

I loved it because it was a chance to catch up with all my female friends which is a bit hard when you're pregnant because you're often too tired to go visiting. Plus we could do girly talk with no men around to complain

We didn't do games because truthfully they make me uncomfortable but if you want to do that kind of thing there are great websites with ideas - just google for them.

Yeah I meant to say register???? I didn't know you could have a baby shower register. They sure do take these things seriously in the States.
