Caprece has had cradle cap from birth really but maybe about 3 months ago it turned quite dry and cracked rather than cradle cappy. Now its started bleeding, first it was just when she hit her head but now shes got about 10 wee scabby bleeding bits on her head. These all came in the past week and she woke up this morning with 2 quite big ones.
We were at the dr yesterday and she said just to keep it oiled up (as I have been forever really) but today its so much worse so I'm really concerned. I don't think shes been hitting her head on anything and have put padding around her cot just in case its from that. It actually looks kinda excemary (especially with all the bloody bits). Has anyone had anything similar? She has no excemas anywhere else on her (but ben has it bad so the genes are there). Does anyone have any advice onto what to put on it. I'm really worried

Oooh it sounds nasty!!!
I haven't had anything near that, but Keziah's cradle cap isn't clearing up either.. it just seems to go like dandruff and then a few days later it gets that cracked earth appearance.. it's horrible!
Maybe you could take her to the doctors again? May need some kind of antiseptic ointment or something

Is she scratching it? Harry's head is all scratched up at the moment, he's had cradle cap for ages and it seems we're just nearly rid of it. But it must be itchy poor thing, I catch him scratching it raw and have to pull his hands away

No thats the thing shes not touching it and I can't figure out why it keeps bleeding. I'm worried that maybe Jack is doing something I don't see.
Ive started using aqueous cream intead of baby oil cos I figure thats probably got a less chance of a reaction?

I used to massage Mikayla's head with Aqueous cream and leave it for about an hour, then bath her. In the bath we use Aqueous cream and then follow with Huggies Sensitive Skin body wash (only place we use it, as her hair went yucky with just the cream) and it took a while, but it has cleared up. Her's wasn't bleeding tho, and she does have eczema. Good luck!

Some options from talking to other mums:
1) olive oil before bed, brush in the morning and wash.
If that seems to 'feed' the scabs (as apparently it can to some babies), then you can try
2) make a paste with baking soda and water. Put that over her head, let dry and then wash off and brush. Apparently works a treat and shouldn't be harmful (m/w's have recommended it so you wouldn't think so)
Hope it goes away soon! I just spent a couple of hours picking the rest of Jack's cradle cap off  (wouldn't come off but wasn't attached IYKWIM) but ouch for bleeding - that wouldn't be fun at all.

hugs... sounds like no fun.
I agree she could be reacting to the oil, I would try the aqueaous cream for a while... is there anything specific that she's eating that could do it? if you wash her hair what do you use? she could be reacting to the shampoo or something.

Yeah Spencers cradle cap has got bad again recently, although not bleeding thankfully, I have just started washing with aqueaous cream each night and it's making a huge difference. My doc also prescribed a steroid cream for it which I haven't used cos i didn't think it was that bad, but that might be something to get off the doc if the aqueaous cream doesn't work.

Anyssa's head also got very dry after her craddle cap and she scratched her head and made it bleed. I tried applying aqueous cream for a week and then olive oil 3 times a day for another week, but it didn't stop her itching. After talking to a pharmacist I used some 0.5% hydrocortisone on it for 4 days and it is all better now.
Freaky if your bub's head is bleeding without her scratching!

When people say they are washing with aqueaous cream, are you applying it before the bath, or while in the bath (just trying to figure out a good way to do it with Rohann).

The gremlins cradlecap got nasty at one stage (OK, so it didn't help that their mother picked at it given the opportunity  ) but we went to the doc and got some stuff called Diprosone on prescription, it was a liquid that I had to massage in which made their hair gross and oily but it worked really quickly.

Yeah thats the thing her dryness isn't on top like cradle cap (I used to pick it too) but its more the actual scalp cracked if that makes sense.
Tiff I've been putting it on while on the bath and not washing it off. i've found washing her head makes it so much worse, even getting it wet makes it worse.
Doesn't hydrocortisone thin the skin? I'm not too keen on putting that on her head. We might just continue with the aqueous and if it doesn't get better I'll take her back. The dr mentioned something but she said its full of chemicals and not so good for babies.

Tiff I use the aqueous cream like shampoo for him, but it is also safe to just rub it in and leave it. Just spencers hair is so long its impossible to only get it on his scalp.
I don't know if it thins the skin but I was also reluctant to use it unless really neccessary. I think its a good plan to stick with aqueaous cream for a bit and if no improvement take her back and get something stronger. Might be better for a few chemicals in a cream than an infection and antibiotics etc.
