What is the general time off people get off if they have been working full time for a company?
I thought it was two weeks but DH has been told only a week. ONE WEEK. Are they kidding.

Wow, he's lucky to get any paid leave from his employer. I thought dads just took annual leave.

I dont think they are entitled to any paid leave (unless they share your paid parental leave). I thought they were entitled to 1 week unpaid if they have been there for 12 months or more.

Yup thats true.

His company may offer something else on top of this. At DH's old work once they had been there for over a certain amount of time they were entitled to up to 6 weeks paid parental leave (paid for by their work) but that had conditions attached with it like how long the mum was taking off etc.

Yep dads aren't entitled to any paid leave, but I'm pretty sure they are entitled to 2 weeks unpaid leave.

Unless their place of employment is lovely like my DH's, and they gave him 2 weeks paid off, and then he took another week off unpaid.

ETA just found info here and yep if he's been working there for 12 months full time, he gets 2 weeks unpaid.

Wow that is really quite sad. Poor dad's get no adjustment time.

My DH took 2 weeks of my PPL when Josh was born, and had a few days of leave so took an extra few (as we knew when Josh was coming so it worked out well) days.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

i've just been looking into it too -- it's two weeks unpaid if they've been with the company for 12 months or more, only get one week unpaid if with the company 6-12 months.

sucks - they deserve paid leave as much as we do!!

Yup, partners definitely have a legal entitlement to up to 2 weeks unpaid leave. DH gets one week on full pay and 1 week unpaid. There's one firm in town that pays men 6 weeks paid parental leave - on full pay, not the $300 from the government. How nice would that be?!

Can anyone please tell me if PPL can be deferred? Im a school teacher and Im due right at the start of the summer holidays. Normally I would get full pay for 7 weeks as its holidays, but if I take it does that mean I forfeit my PPL? Can I defer my PPL and take it when my 7 weeks of school holidays run out?

What about if the mum is a SAHM, does that mean the father can get full PPL?

my Dh only got one week off with Alan and they were nice enough to pay him advanced holiday pay as he had only been working there 6 week's he had worked there a few year's back and they knew we had shifted town at the last minute. With Mikey again he had not been there 12 month's so was not entittled to anything and unfortunality he had been off sick the week before Bub's arrived so he was only off for 2 day's plus the weekend. This time round he would qualify however due to staffing issue's chances are he will only get a week if lucky he is back at his original job when we first moved here they are pretty good so you never know it depend's if he has the holiday's oweing.

Pregnant women are entitled to 10 days unpaid special leave to attend appointments, scans etc. Fathers are entitled to 10 days unpaid paternal leave around the time of the birth. Most Dad's use their annual leave so they can be paid for the time off.

In addition to this if you are in paid employment you can take up to 52 weeks extended leave which is unpaid. You can transfer this to your partner and there are conditions based on your length of service, hours worked etc.

If you are in paid employment you can also take 14 weeks paid parental leave, again subject to conditions based on tenure and hours worked. This is administered by IRD not your employer. This is the only paid leave you are entitled to, however some employers will offer paid parental leave.

You can not be on annual leave and paid parental leave at the same time so most people time their paid parental leave to start when their annual leave runs out.
