we were staying at my inlaws yesterday and my mil wanted to know why we had a torch with us. I explained it was so I could give Megan her nightly feed without waking her (completely) she thought that you need to wake the baby completely. I said I just want enough light to be able to see but not enough to wake he fully. She does wake but not enough to be fully alert.

she also thought Megan might need water (as she was feeding a lot yesterday) but Ive been told BF babies dont need water til a certain age?

I introduced Blair to water over late summer, especially when he was feeding a lot more, as it was suggested that he may have been thirsty as opposed to hungry. He was about 4 months old at the time.

I know what you mean about low lighting for dreamfeeds. We've got a pushlight to use when we're away and a low wattage lamp in the lounge for at home

I'd only introduce water when you are ready. I found water would full Cooper up and then he wouldn't want his bottle.

Sounds like you are doing it all right. MILs always think they know best   BF babies dont need water unless it is really hot! Your milk is meant to change...they just want to feed more!

And I used to feed Tom in dim light for all hsi night feeds and I tried not to wake him when I dream fed him...he still seemed to suck happily away!

Trust YOUR instincts.

BTW....I still cant get Tom to have water and he seems ok at 7.5 months

Totally agree! We did tonnes of things that MIL thought were ridiculous,..b/f instead of bottle, dream feeds, CIO method(when older tho) etc etc!

She might just be feeding more cos she is growing more, or if you had been rushing aorund and stressing about outlaws the quaility of your milk might have been a bit down also! Breast milk adapts to the needs of the baby, so if she is thirsty and feeding more all of a sudden it will supply all the 'water' for her etc.
