cut their finger nails and clean their teeth?

I've been trying to cut his monster finger nails this morning and managed to get 1, at this rate by the time I get to number 10 number 1 will need cutting again.

Also teeth cleaning, he helps me clean his bottom teeth which he thinks is absolutely hilarious but is not keen on the top ones being done, any tricks?

When my bubs were little I'd either do their nails when they were sleeping or get someone to do it while they were feeding.
Can't remember the tricks we used for teeth back then though, sorry!

Daniel just watches me in fascination when I do his nails so no help there.

I haven't tried cleaning his teeth yet. He won't let me in his mouth so I'm not going to fight him over it yet especially since he's just constantly cutting teeth right now

To cut her nails I put her on my lap and turn on the tv. She loves watching it (this is the only time I let her watch tv).
Sorry can't help with the teeth! The first two have only just broken through! Though I remember plunket saying to give her a toothbrush to play with in the bath, and let her watch you brush your teeth, so she understands.

LEt him have a toothbrush to play with while you are brushing and don't worry if he tries to put his one in his mouth.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

To start with I think you're meant to clean their teeth with a flannel and then later get them a tooth brush to play with.

For nails - no idea. There are some toenails that have never been cut. I try to do her hands when she's feeding but it's a bit of a mission and a juggling act.

Haha sleeping, yeah right, haven't been able to cut them while he is sleeping for about 8 months. Feeding and cutting doesn't work either he is very interactive with his bottle or my face while drinking.
He has absolutely no interest in the TV what so ever, I even have an in the night garden dvd, but nope couldn't careless

I started off trying a flannel but he really didn't like it, which I don't blame him for I would hate a flannel in my mouth. When his bottom ones came through I just let him play with his little brush so he would get use to the texture of it and then I started directing it whilst he still holds on, he loves his bottom ones being brushed and thinks its really funny, it is just if I try to get the top ones. We don't use toothpaste yet I just wet the brush. (plunket said to brush his teeth twice daily with ADULT tooth paste, erm they make childrens toothpaste for a reason!!).
I haven't pushed it with his top ones as I didn't want to cause an "issue" over it.
I might try the two brush idea though and see how that goes.

Cooper tries to help me when I do his nails. So I now give him something for him to play with while I do his feet, then when it comes to his fingers, I tackle him to the ground and sit on him! Its a real mission.

Isla will let me brush her teeth if I let her brush mine,..seriosly! So i have to clean hers while trying to avoid being gagged!

I still bite Isla's nails, while she is having a bottle. I cut her finger with baby nail clippers when she was quite little, and I still havent gotten over it!

They are doing a big oral health promotion at my local medical centre and the nurse there told me that baby toothpaste has sugar in it(!), so you are better off with a tiny bit of adult toothpaste -it has 1000ppm of fluoride and baby tp has 600 ppm.

ETA - ps if anyone has got some baby toothpaste I'd be keen to know if the sugar thing is true!

Have recently discovered that the best way to cut Ellas nails..if for me to the vacumming and then DH cuts her nails while she is on his knee (she just stares in fascination at the vacum cleaner- the one time she can get her to sit still).

Had no probs brushing her teeth- she loves it and I normally just a very small amount of baby toothpaste with some water. Normally I brush my teeth first while she is in my arms (which she thinks is the funniest thing every) and then brush her teeth.

Fingernails - on my lap with a firm handhold on their hand!! And do the toes first if they need doing because after 10 fingers they will not be happy for another round lol

Teeth - just let them munch on a toothbrush by themselves until sometime past 1yo when they will let you do a quick brush before putting it away.

The reason they say this is because Chchs water isn't flurodated (sp?) and adult toothpaste has more in it.

We use the tiniest bit of toothpaste and let her have a play. Just try every day even if you only get one swipe at the top teeth. Eventually he will let you do it.

I bite Capreces nails still. Actually I still bite Jacks too but his usually break off before I get near them anyway.

to cut nails - we use clipper and i sit her on my knee...take her hand and do them....while talking to her....she lets me 95% of the time! same with toe nails...

toothbrush - we gave it to her orig and put it to her mouth...easy when everything went in! and she went from there...no forcing....she loves to brush her teeth...we aim the brush at times but she does it mostly now herself - and is now allowing me to turn on the vibration thingey on it too! that suprised me!
