what happened to my calm, never crying baby boy?

for the last two nights he's cried...a lot..he never used to unless hungry..even when unsettled he just grizzled..he's been going through something? and hard to settle....will eventually settle and sleep all night but in the meantime he's unsettled..we try everything...the whole checklist and nothing is wrong.. like yesterday he catnapped all day (1hour sleeps) and then spent 6-10 just being unhappy:( ! any advice on what to do?I tried feeding him (a lot) and then only thing that eventually calmed him was some EBM and then some formula.. is he not getting enough from me? (he has only had those two formula bottles so its not like he normally gets formula(last night and the night before)..any advice ro guidance or anything?

on the plus side he's listening to his white noise CD(30$ worth of static) and hasnt cried since i put him back down.. but when he got up he took one boob and then refused the same one again(if its been ages i give him the same side twice) and i had to give him dummy to calm him to get him to take it. :(

and i spent an hour at after hours last night...bizarre stomach pain that wouldnt go away.. she said I'm dehydrated(really?after feeding for hours and hours and hours?) and exhausted and gave me some pills(same ones i had after my migrane for miscarriage so I'm too scared to take them..bad memories)

and told me to make sure the pain doesnt get any worse... so I'm stressed and sore and bub is acting weird too.. related maybe?

They pick up on your emotions/moods so he might be reacting to that. Also getting dehydrated won't help your milk too much. So take care of yourself!

But in saying that they have good days and bad days. Sometimes they cry for hours and you will never know what caused it.

We always found a relaxing bath was the best way to get Daniel to relax if he's been a grump all day. We just use to fill the bath up (the big bath not baby bath) and have it really warm the way we would with for us and just lay in it with him. It would calm him right down. Then get him out and quickly dressed and into bed. I'd stay in the bath and lax out a bit while DH delt to Daniel. It did us both the world of good!

If you are dehydrated that will effect you milk a lot. Once you think he should have had enough try something else to get him to sleep like taking him for a walk. If DH is home get him to do it so that you can rest, exhaustion also effects your milk supply.
The bath idea is great as well.

Have you eaten anything differently over the last couple of days. A couple of times I noticed that what I had eaten upset Spencer and he would just be manic.

Do you feed from both sides each feed? If not I would still alternate boobs no matter how long in between otherwise the otherside might stop making or make less.

But like Stacey said sometimes they just have bad days.

yep - i agree with the above - keep up your water intake cause that will affect the milk... the other possibility is colic - but i think that kicks in later if it is going to.

sounds like maybe something you ate or your dehydration level? ellas easter egg episode last year took a week to resolve so if you have eaten something it may take a week to settle....I remember how you feel!

also try the "supermilk" thing we did last year to boost your supply - have plenty of bananas and get someyeast into you - worst way is a glass of beer - best is to go get soem yeast tablets or powder from a health shop etc...and i also found up and go drinks helped a lot - esp when i couldnt eat anymore....

It might just have been a growth spurt and therefore he wants to feed lots and is unsettled. I was told just recently that each growth spurt is also a development spurt, so they learn something new each time.
For me lots of skin to skin contact helped with the milk supply and also calmed baby and myself.
For sore tummies and/or wind I drink fennel tea. Might be worth a try.

kebakat -we usually do a bath but didnt last night:( bizarrely he has gone straight to sleep three time in a row after big night sleep now with that stupid white noise cd and no grizzling at all. weird!

the thing with Dh is he will do things adn thats good(like today when i had to go out for a few hours) but i sorta feel like i owe him after that..like today he could have txted me and told me he had gone back to sleep so i could stay with my family longer but he didnt and let me rush home thinking he needed me...its annoying..:( i guess men just dont think.. and if its nighttime i dont trust him to wake up(though to be fair he says he would if he had to)

I try to drink after feeds but after the 3rd one i kinda forgot:( and then got stressed..

yes i normally alternate though sometimes..like this morning when one was super full i gave him both on the one side.. morning and lunch everything great..night time he needs more than my milk:( i just worry with alternating that he is getting a lot of the fore milk..

I've been home 15 mins and DH sound asleep already..what a life.

bizzy- later as in when?:(

I love bananas and up and go so will do that..will take him for walk to supermrket after he gets up.. when he had jabs i tried skin to skin and it worked..i was just too worked up last night to think of it.. !

thanks everyone i shall try all that..!

ooops i was wrong - can happen between 2 - 16 weeks of age. It was more than likely some random thing tho.
i know that gabriel was a very unsettled baby between 4-10pm most days and then one day he just stopped and settled down.

weirdly today hes been quite settled...hmm maybe its something i ate? and i have drunk way more today....frustrating that what i eat and drink affects him...hospital said everything in moderation and that not much would affect him.. that white noise cd seems to be helping too..weird!
