Baby swimming lessons

we started jake at one, and he went for two terms - he enjoyed it, but at that age I thought he didn't really benefit from lessons as they were more like playing. now our kids are 3 and 2, we are going to pay for the lessons. here it is $90 a term, so I really didn't want to be paying that for a child who was really just splashing about in a big bath.

so do you think they are over rated? maybe we should just keep putting him in the spa with us at home? he LOVES kicking and splashing if thats all they are going to do I would rather spend my $ somewhere else, like ????

We've been going for about half a term or so now, and I think it is worthwhile to go for one term and see what they do so we can then keep doing the same things on our own. Jake really enjoys it now. He wasn't so keen on being dunked at first but doesn't seem to mind it now and loves splashing around. Its really just about water confidence when they are under 3-4 years ... so if you think that is worth spending the money on then it is ... but if you're happy to play around with bubs without the songs and clapping and other bubs then maybe its not worth it. I do think learning how they dunk was good though ..... as I would have never put his head under otherwise!!
And as hubby goes in with Jake, its been great daddy/bub time.

We go to pioneer cos we left it to late to book (3 of us go), but we want to do Kaiapoi next term

I agree with Annie. We started Samantha at 5 months and she is so confidence compared with other kids in the class. It is so worth the money as far as I am concerned, plus a great way to get out and meet other mums

yeah I am thinking of taking him to Aquanauts in Papakura, its a swim school rather than Massey Park but they wont take him till May so will continue playing at home

I started taking Lachlan to lessons at 6 months and he LOVES he, now he knows what we are doing and starts squealing as soon as we get to the door! He is a real water baby and we spend a bit of time at the lakes and the beach and have lots of water around the farm so I really want him to be water safe and confident.
I also enjoy it becuase it is another chane to get together with other mums of babies around the same age (Lachie is the youngest and I think the oldest is about 10 months.

We have been taking Oli since he was 3 months old, he was the youngest by far in the class, but he has done really well and now kicks like crazy and holds the kickboard (okay he is trying to eat it but he holds it). He has been going under for the last few weeks and doesnt grizzle or cry now - he looks a bit confused but not too worried. We are going to Hilton Brown and they are pretty expensive, they charge by the month which can be a bit confusing too.
