Topic: 6 week scan Posted: 03 March 2008 at 8:07pm |
For those that have had a 6 weeks scan what is there to see? GP said that there probably wouldn't be a heartbeat this early so i'm wondering what exactly they will be able to tell me. I know they are trying to rule out ectopic but will they be able to tell me anything else.
Bloody medlab didn't get my HCG result to the docs by this evening so have to wait till tomorrow and this whole thing is doing my head in now, I just want a proper answer tomorrow at the scan but I have this horrible feeling I'm gonna get told that they don't know and I have more waiting and seeing to do.

I had a scan at what I thought was 6 weeks exact (still think that) and they dated as 6+3 and we saw a little bean with a heartbeat. Good luck.

It really depends. With Elle I saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks but often that is not visable until later. At 6 weeks I think you are supposed to see the gestational sac and a foetal pole but I could be wrong. With my miscarried pregnancy they saw at 5 week old empty gestational sac.
All the best!!! LEt us know how it goes.

I had a scan dated at 6w0d with the gremlins and they saw a heartbeat (just the one tho lol, twin 2 was obviously too small to see). Had one dated at 5w6d with this pregnancy and they saw the heartbeat but only on the internal scan. I only had it that early to rule out twins.
You should be able to see a gest sac, and, if your hCG levels are over 1000 you may also be able to see a yolk sac and over 2000 you may see a fetal pole. It's not usual to see a heartbeat till levels are over 5000.
With my m/c they found a gest sac measuring 4w5d and I was supposed to be 7w1d, there was no yolk sac or fetal pole.
Good luck tomorrow. I really hope they are able to put an end to the ambiguity for you one was or another, I'll have my fingers crossed for a healthy wee fetal pole.

I had a 6-7 week scan (due to bleeding) and really I couldn't see anything, it was a bit of a blob and I agreed the heart beat was there, but I couldn't see what she was pointing at, but in the state I was in I was just ha[[y to hear that it was there

By my dates I would've been exactly 6 weeks 0 days....they dated me at 6+3 at the scan. I still think my dates are pretty accurate.

my 6 week had no heart beat just the sac. They dated it 5w3d-5w6d. Since then, my scans have suggested I was probably 5w5d-6w. Some literature I've read says the 6 week scan is most accurate for dating; others say the 12 or 18 week scans are.

My first scan with Rico was internal (too small to see anything otherwise), that was at 5w5d & we saw his heartbeat!! It was beautiful!!!
Do be prepared for them to do an internal scan since you're not that far along & they may not being able to see much externally, ALL THE BEST .

The best time to date a pregnancy is 6-10 weeks.

Yeah it isn't for dating, it is to rule out ectopic and hopefully tell me whether the pregnancy is doing what it suppose to or whether there is a problem because of my low hcg levels. Hmmmm don't know whether to ring and get hcg results in the morning or just wait for the scan in the afternoon, don't know whether knowing the number will make me feel calmer or worse about the scan

Cuppatea, all the very best for your scan tomorrow. I had a scan at 6 weeks exactly with Ollie, due to bleeding and we were able to see his heart beat.
eta: actually all the best for your scan today
