Could be that we're mad, but DH and I are now TTC #2.

It's going to be interesting, because we'll put it on hold (for various reasons) if I don't get pregnant by the end of February, and also because I only see DH on weekends at the moment.

Ah well, fingers crossed!

If I do get pregnant then I'll probably stay in Australia to have it... My parents are here to help out with Alex, and I might as well get that baby bonus (it's $5k now) if I'm having a baby anyway

Good on you. I think I might plan to have my next one over there as well. So glad i'm an Oz citizen to be able to get those benefits.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Baby bonus is their PPL payments but you get way more and in a lump sum. I don't know all that much about it but have a look at the states internal affairs website for the details.

Yeah, it's instead of PPL (since you don't have to work to claim it) and at the moment it's about $4200, but it goes up to $5000 later this year - I think July 1?

It's not means tested either, and it's paid out in a lump sum, usually within a fortnight of you submitting the claim form. Any Australian resident for tax purposes who gives birth in Australia can claim it, as far as I understand.

There was a whole lot of controversy over it when it was introduced as some people thought it might encourage teenagers to have babies to get the cash. I don't think it has increased the teen pregnancy rate though, but I could be wrong on that.

I don't think it has increased the teen pregnancy rate at all after it was introduced. If anything has incouraged older woman to have babies now.

LOL when I went to the GP in Oz just recently to get a referral for my NT scan I saw a locum and when she heard it was baby #4 she gave me a look that suggested I might be only reproducing for the baby bonus. What a dick, my babies are always born here!

Thought I'd better post a quick update on what's going on here.

Well I was lucky enough to fall pregnant the first month of trying, which DH and I were absolutely thrilled about.

Sadly I miscarried at 6 weeks, just a few days ago.

We don't have any plans to try again in the near future, I think we'll just concentrate on Alex for the time being. I am luckier than many who miscarry because I already have one beautiful healthy child, so I am focussing on counting my blessings at the moment.

Best of luck to all the other TTCers
